The Casual Player's Boss Impressions & Rankings

Hey guys, so I'm a complete casual player who decided to check out Cuphead because I love the artstyle and let me just say that it was simultaneously one of the funnest but most frustrating games I've played. I'll be working on a guide for most bosses aimed at other players like myself that just want to experience the game without worrying too much about ranking or perfecting parrying. But before I embark on that project, I thought it'd be fun to provide yet another boss ranking list along with my impressions of them because those are always fun. Keep in mind that while some of these bosses may, on paper, be harder, by the time you get to them you have mastered some techniques and have access to more weapons so this may have impacted my perception of them. I also refused to use Smoke Bomb with the exception of Grimm Matchstick, mainly so I could just focus on the platforms so that definitely impacts my ratings.
As a fun fact, despite beating the game I went back and somehow still lost to the Root Pack so that gives you an idea of my skill level. It took my 1,221 deaths to beat this game (roughly 3 days)!

F Tier: Tutorial Bosses
The Root Pack: An excellent starting boss that teaches you so much about the game without saying anything. Teaches you about the recurring patterns bosses will have (and the small tweaks that will occur in their patterns), different phases and even shooting up and taking care of the clutter on screen. Not too much else to say here but it's a fun fight.
D Tier: Easy Enough
Goopy Le Grande: Believe it or not, I struggled quite a bit with Goopy. Granted, I was still getting used to the controls but to this day I still find him somewhat challenging. I can't quite predict when he's going to bounce off the screen and that can easily throw me off. I also have the bad habit of dashing when he's charging up his punches. When he gets bigger it's scary because the bounce off the screen takes up so much space and you have to remain close to him to stay out of harms way. Still, nothing too bad here.
Ribby & Croaks: The first phase is really easy. Just stick to the far left and duck. Only jump to avoid the low punches. Use spread shot to clear the screen from the fire flies. Once you get the timing of the rolling frog, the second phase isn't bad either. You can easily use the wind to move out of harm's way and when you get too close to the frog throwing out the orbs, running in the opposite direction almost ensures you'll never get hit. The hardest part is obviously the slot machine phase. I found dodging the coins that home in to be annoying and contributed to the most damage I took. Bull/Devil is by far the easiest as half the time it doesn't require you do anything, Tiger Phase is really not too bad either as once I found my rhythm it was super manageable and you have your choice of jumping when the balls aren't out yet or at the height of their arc. Frog Phase I found to be the hardest only because if you mess up, it's really, really hard to get back to a working rhythm. This was my second boss fight and I found it only slightly more challenging than Goopy (I'm pretty sure I died to Goopy more!)
C Tier: Challenging In Any Other Game
Cagney Carnation: Yikes, this was the fight that really shook my confidence. The screen is a clutter and being trash at parrying, it all but ensured that the little minions crowded my screen. Still, it wouldn't have been so bad were it not for that absolutely stupid flower that flies at the top of the screen. I can't tell you how many runs it ended. It makes dodging the acorns so much harder and the final phase a total mess if it manages to slip by. Still, if I took care of that damn thing this boss wasn't too bad.
Werner Werman: Hands down one of the funnest bosses in the game, he's still a total cakewalk and it's shocking to see him in the third island. His first phase took some getting used to, mainly because if the cherry bombs where thrown at odd angles it could get hectic. His second stage was really difficult until I realize that the sticks holding the bottle caps don't hurt you....I thought they did and so for a while thought this fight was way harder with entire parts of the screen cut off. But once I realized that, this was a cakewalk and his last phase is probably the easiest. Cool twist ending too!
Hilda Berg: Now we're getting to the bosses that really start to challenge you. Hilda Berg wasn't too bad though. Simply staying in motion makes you avoid her fast "Haha" attacks and her first transformation is super easy. As soon as she remains in place, you know her insanely fast ram is coming so if you just watch her, this phase should be over without any worries. The tornadoes require some slick maneuvering but nothing too bad. Her Gemini form is really fun while her Sagittarius form is a total pain. Her last phase wasn't too bad, especially since I had a saved up special that significantly cut down on the time and the UFO's are the only real threat.
The Phantom Express: With the Parrying Sugar charm equipped, this fight isn't too bad at all. The first phase is a cakewalk and even if a Pumpkin slips by, it's relatively easy to dodge the eyeballs and return to safety. Second phase wouldn't be too bad except it can be tricky to parry the pink bricks without getting hit. The third phase is a mixed bag. Sometimes the ghosts would slip by and put me in a messy situation but most of the times it was fairly easy. The last phase isn't too bad but the smoke ring that circles is tricky and easy to get lost in the background. Still, nothing too bad here.
Bippy the Clown: The first boss that told me the game was not fucking around anymore, I still don't consider Bippy to be too bad. I almost view him as another tutorial boss, teaching you to watch the background, change up your weapons and make use of your supers wisely. First phase is easy with practice and so long as you watch the background and use your Spread Shot, while staying away from the far left and right corners where the balloons spawn, the second phase is easy. The only thing tricky about the third phase is ensuring the jerk doesn't trap you just as the roller coaster is coming. A bit out of your control but keeping an eye on the background made it manageable. The last phase is a total blur but I never struggled too much with it, especially after dumping a charged special at him.
B Tier: Buckle Down, You're in For a Tough Fight
Cala Maria: This is such an odd one. On the one hand, it only took me a handful of tries to defeat her. On the other hand, some combinations feel outright impossible (Blowfish and electric eels or ghosts) while others are a total cakewalk. I found that when the damn Seahorse comes out, if I drew it close to her before her second attack, it minimized the pain. Her second phase isn't too bad at all, especially since by now you should have mastered the bullet hell the game can throw at you but luck can really screw you over: one unlucky stone gaze can end your run. The last phase is also luck dependent but you have some time to position yourself anticipating the stone gaze. All in all, a mixed bag but the fight goes by pretty quickly. If it didn't, this one would be much, much higher.
Djimmy the Great: The RNG at the start of this fight is pretty insane but thankfully the first phase is by far the hardest so no worries if you do super badly. Until this fight, I had not been using the Mini Option on the plane but it really, really forces you to master the mechanic...and good thing too! It's mandatory from here on out! I found the Cats to be the easiest to dodge, with swords being of medium difficulty and the treasure a nightmare albeit going up and down makes them more manageable. Second phase gets some getting used to but with practice wasn't too bad. Third phase I cheesed by staying near the top but it isn't too bad normally either. Fourth phase is by far the funnest (aside from avoiding the cats) and with using mini prudently and smart positioning is over before you know it. A special to the face ends the last phase before it gets out of control.
Captain Brineybeard: This one is a ton of fun. Tons of screen micromanagement. The hardest part of this fight for me is getting the shots to land on the Captain. Took me the longest time to master jumping high enough to hit him with the Charge Shot. But otherwise this is trail and error, learning how to keep track of all the chaos on the screen and finding the rhythm to avoid the cannonballs the ship launches. The last phase is super weird. Either really difficult or a cakewalk depending on whether you have your special built up and if you decide to cheese the orbs thrown out. Still, relatively easy to get to the end with all 3 lives once you've mastered the earlier phases.
Sally Stageplay: My favorite fight of the game, I will go on the record here and say that if it weren't for Smoke Bomb or Art 2 making you invincible, this would be the hardest fight of the game. I beat her without using Smoke Bomb because I wanted a challenge and I'm glad I did. But without invincibility her second phase would just be grueling. Really fun though. Her third phase provides some challenge with dodging the big wave (it's really hard not to burst out laughing at seeing some schmuck carrying the prop!) and the last phase is a breeze. However, the first and second stages really require you position yourself correctly and it's easy to get in a bind if you don't. Tricky boss (without Smoke Bomb!) but always a blast.
The Devil: The big baddie of the series, I personally didn't find The Devil to be too bad. Much like Sally, Art 2 makes certain aspects of the fight a breeze that otherwise would be more daunting. His first phase is by and away the toughest but since you get plenty of practice it's relatively easy to master. His Goat Attack isn't too bad once you get the hang of it. The snake is free damage and the spider is occasionally very tricky or extremely easy. What really makes this phase difficult are the magic objects he conjures up. The bouncing balls aren't too bad but they can blend in with your shots. I used Roundabout in this fight to deal with the purple minion with ease and sometimes I would get them mixed up. The flames that fly at you aren't too bad once you get the gist of it. But the stupid flames that travel in a diamond formation are hell to avoid and ended most of my runs. The second phase is super fun and not too much cause for trouble. Third phase goes by in a breeze if you use your special and invincibility when things get chaotic. I found that if I made it to Phase 2 with all 3 hearts, I was all but guaranteed to win this fight.
Tier A: Welcome To a Trail By Fire
Grimm Matchstick: By far the first phase is my favorite in the entire game. I can just play it over and over again for fun...and good thing too! Because I found myself back in it plenty of times. The first part is never too bad and contrary to a lot of people's opinions, I rarely ever found platform placement unfair. I think the problem most people have is they insist on going forward when you can just as well dodge going backwards if the forward option's platforms aren't preferable. But so long as you have a Plan A and Plan B of which platforms to dash to, this isn't bad. The Lobby Gun is essential for this and the second phase, which is so weird. Getting the timing of the stupid fireballs is so weird. But provided you're observant and listen to the audio cues, it gets better with time. Still, mastering this phase was extremely grueling and those flames jump in a way that almost always led to close calls. The last phase is super weird. Objectively speaking, it isn't too hard. But what makes it so damn hard is that Cuphead teaches you to be shooting at all times. You cannot do that here. Every instinct you've gained will be begging you to but it's important to take your time. But once you do, this phase is honestly not that bad. Still, this was truly the first boss that got me totally frustrated and I had to look for help online. Once I got the hang of it though, I realized it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought.
Baroness Von Bon Bon: Oh boy. Independently speaking, none of her minions are too bad. But once the Jelly Bean soldiers enter the picture it's really easy to get cornered in a bad spot. By the time she pulls out her cotton candy shotgun, things are so chaotic and you may well be in quite a pickle. By far I found the Candy Corn and Jawbreaker to be the hardest. If I got them on Phase 1 and got through unscathed, I considered myself lucky. The Pudding is odd. Very, very easy by himself and he has a tendency to trap himself on the right corner of the screen making for an easy fight but you may also be forced to go to the right side of the screen which in Phase 2 and 3 can mean taking a cheap potshot by the randomly spawning Jelly Beans. The Waffle and Gumball Machine are both okay (I used a special to make sure the Waffle was gone ASAP). Honestly, the 3rd Phase throws so much shit at you it's really hard to keep your cool and sometimes you're just trapped in a tough spot where it feels kind of cheap. Sometimes you get lucky and make it to the last phase relatively unharmed. Very uneven battle in my experience. The last phase is difficult namely because the head moves in such weird patterns. I found it best to focus most of my attention drawing the head away from the center, getting a few shots in and then avoiding the head again. Always being mindful of when the Peppermint would be coming out made this last phase grueling but doable.
Wally Warbles: I have no idea why but I found myself getting hit over and over again by the damn eggs of the first phase...even while sticking to the left screen where their breaking can't touch you. Took me try and try again to avoid them and even then it wasn't very consistent. Those stupid birds also gave me trouble cutting off entire parts of the screen extending the length of this fight. While Djimmy's Turban introduced the notion of bullet hell, the second Phase ups the ante and really forces you to become comfortable with the concept. Takes a while to master and sometimes the phase lasts a bit longer than you'd like since he ends up at the top or bottom of the screen just out of reach. His son is by far the trickiest aspect of the fight and requires that you keep your cool, be okay standing in front of him both having to be wary of a point blank shot (thank God you can parry them!) and the collapsing eggs around him. His randomized movements make it hard to find any kind of rhythm. The last phase isn't too bad but it's relatively easy to get boxed in and take some damage so I had to come in with at least a hit to spare. Getting here is so difficult that it's easy to choke up or miss any of the small projectiles coming at you. What a doozy of a fight!!
King Dice: Another oddball fight. King Dice's individual components aren't half bad but what makes him truly difficult is how its more an endurance test that requires near perfection than anything else. It's also time consuming to play the different bosses and figure out which ones work for you. For example, I just could not get the hang of Mr. Wheezy even if others insist he is easy. I did pretty well against the Tipsy Troop but it was risky, so Chips Bettigan was my best bet (no pun intended) but without Smoke Bomb still took some time to master. Other bosses are super easy if you use Smoke Bomb like Pirouletta but make the fight with King Dice that requires perfect parrying difficult and gives you less control over the dice. For some players that's a good trade-off but for me it wasn't. I found Pip and Dot to be the most manageable and fun and Mangosteen was super easy albeit nerve wrecking. Oh and fuck Phear Lap. That tree that takes up a third of the screen is broken and a rather bizarre mistake in an otherwise well-designed game. King Dice himself, once you got to him, was nothing too bad but did require smart positioning and taking stock of the situation. For fun I'll rank the sub-bosses in order of least difficult to most difficult.
  1. Mangosteen
  2. Chips Bettigan
  3. Pip & Dot
  4. Hopus Pocus
  5. The Tipsy Troup
  6. Pirouletta
  7. Mr. Wheezy
  8. Phear Lap
  9. Mr. Chimes
Tier S: Absolute Insanity
Rumor Honeybottoms: This is the first fight that truly forced me to figure out what I even wanted to do. All the fights before it, I knew what I should be doing but what was difficult was figuring out how to do it. From the get go, you have to master moving from platform to platform horizontally and vertically while getting used to the pace of the automatically scrolling screen. Next, you have to get comfortable with the movements of the police officer and how the bombs will explode. It took me a good half an hour to make sense of the chaos and try out different weapons to find what worked for me. Roundabout was the V.I.P. here and I found a specific pattern that not only helped me get through Phase 1 but consistently enter Phase 2 with a super almost built up. But the Second Phase required a lot of work as well. I had to give up even trying to progress so much as try to find out what the hell to do. I figured out how to deal with the magic round balls first, then it was getting used to the timing of the triangles and I figured out the bullet bills last. Once I did all that, I was so exhausted and the third phase is no slouch either. This is the only time I actually struggled with the platforms as the boxing gloves took up most of my attention and I frequently found myself without a platform to jump to. However, coming into the last phase with the invincibility all ramped up made it so much easier and thankfully you can pump so much damage into her as she turns herself into an airplane that it made the last phase difficult but not impossible. Still, it was the first boss where I truly felt I had to use all of my brainpower to figure out what to do. Very fun fight and I don't get the hate against it. I loved this fight!
Dr. Kahl's Robot: Yeah, you just knew this would be my toughest fight of the game. Much like Honeybottoms herself, this is all about taking your time and being smart about how you approach the battle. There's so much chaos going on in the screen and it takes forever to figure out what's causing it. Oh, so the bottom part is where those fucking annoying spaceshifts come from. Wait, why are there bombs coming in now? Oh, it's because I destroyed the bottom part? Once you figure out what each body part does (and what attacks are introduced once they are destroyed), it becomes a test of what to destroy first, second and third. Once you figure out what gives you the least trouble, it's about getting into a rhythm where you can do it down to a science. You cannot afford to take a hit here. The second phase is actually my least favorite phase in the entire game. Not only is it entirely boring but sometimes getting hit by bombs that spawned off-screen or by the robot's head coming at a much higher level of the screen felt insanely cheap. Still, going in a certain rotation and lobbying bombs rather than shooting missiles at the head works the most consistently. But missing a bomb can cause chaos on screen that can be really hard to get out of. The last phase is obviously the most difficult. Honestly, the bullet hell itself wasn't too bad but it was having to dodge the platforms that made it so immensely difficult. I also found that the way the attack starts is really unnatural and you find yourself at odd angles. Once I got hit and used the invulnerability frames to reposition myself, I found a better "flow" and was able to use the paths that naturally arose from the attack combinations. Still, it lasts so long and the platforms can put you in some tight jams. Doesn't help that the other two phases last so long that by the time you get here your nerves are jolted. Very difficult fight and were it not for your specials significantly cutting down on the time you spend on the last phase, this fight would be much, much harder than it already is.
Phew! Okay so that's my rankings for the bosses along with some of my thoughts. Hope you guys enjoyed and please feel free to share your own list of rankings and thoughts!

I beat the game on normal! My tier list with explanations.

S (very challenging)
- Grim Matchstick: This is the first boss in which you simultaneously have to dodge and perform a passive action (platforming), and Grim is an extremely difficult introduction. Complete mastery of the first and second phases and their RNG is required in order to be able to survive the final phase. Loadout used: LobbeCharge
- Rumor Honeybottoms: The platforming is much easier than with Grim (though sometimes there's no platform) but some of the attacks are harder to dodge (especially the stupid bullets). The only saving grace for this boss compared to Grim is that damage done in the second phase shortens the last and hardest one. Loadout: LobbeSpread
- Dr Kahl: No surprise here; Dr Kahl keeps the screen busy at all times while you're still restricted to your airplane. Planning and trial and error are required for the first phase; lightning reflexes for the last phase (though the addition of parryable projectiles has made it easier). This took me the longest of any boss to defeat.
- King Dice: Though the bosses themselves are easy, any mistake/death has you starting again from the beginning, making this fight long and exhausting. In addition, getting the hang of the dice rolls can be difficult; I like to duck under it and jump one before the number I want. Loadout: Charge/any
- Rugged Ridge: Not as pacifist. I found this to be the most challenging of the Run n' Gun levels due to the respawning enemies and extremely stressful final platforming section. This was the only Run n' Gun I had to go back and redo to get all of the coins. Loadout: Roundabout/Lobber
A (difficult)
- Djimmi: People say that Djimmi is an easy boss, but this was one of the most challenging fights of Isle 2 for me. His fight is extremely long with 5 phases, and except the sarcophagus phase, they can all be difficult. The first phase is basically a restart if you get treasure, the second phase had me praying to RNGesus, fourth and fifth phases are in my opinion some of the hardest individual boss phases in the game.
- Hilda Berg: As the first plane level, this fight has lots of trial and error as a result. Constant zeppelin bullets keep you constantly moving, constellation morphs can be hard, and the last phase is often too confusing to even understand what is happening. If you fail, you have to start all over.
- Beppi: Beppi has a lot of fast attacks that would be easy to dodge if not for the roller coaster, a constant hazard you're forced to constantly avoid. Combined with the horse attacks, sometimes it can be nearly impossible to not take damage in certain situations. Loadout: Roundabout/Spread
- Wally Warbles: Wally is another challenging aerial boss. The first phase is already hectic before the game launches you into the first bullet hell sequence, which takes lots of practice. Second phase requires you to get into a comfortable rhythm of going in and out, while the last phase once again tests your dodging. Even difficulty across each phase.
- The Devil: Appropriately difficult as the last boss. First phase has a dizzying array of 6 attacks plus the little demons; third phase is total chaos. However, mastering the first and easy second phase seemed to be the key to taking down Lucifer himself for Cuphead's soul. Loadout: Roundabout/Spread
- Perilous Piers: JUST KEEP MOVING. Constant streams (no pun intended) of RNG fish fill the screen, wizard lobsters put you in constant danger, and the stupid octopus was probably responsible for most of my deaths. How did I know it had to be basically passively parried at all times? Painful from start to finish, but Rugged Ridge was worse. Loadout: Chaseanything
B (medium)
- Frogs: The frog bros have a pretty easy first phase and a simple rhythm for the second phase, but the slot machine was extremely difficult. Bulls are the easiest, frogs are the hardest. The last phase alone isn't enough to make up for the fairly easy first phases, though. Loadout: Roundabout/Spread
- Baroness: The Baroness slowly ramps up the difficulty by adding more and more dangers with more and more minions. The minibosses themselves are the subject of RNG: the muffin is quite annoying while the gumball machine is very easy. Of course, the last phase is utter hell as you're forced to adapt to the head's tracking pattern. Too much pink. Loadout: Roundabout/anything
- Captain Brineybeard: Did someone say difficulty curve? Brineybeard starts out with a ridiculously easy first phase before transitioning into utter chaos as you dodge sea life, cannonballs, and of course, the barrel. I hope you didn't get cocky! Loadout: Charge/anything
- Phantom Express: Despite being limited to the small traincar platform, this boss's first few phases are quite simple especially with autoparry. Each boss only has one attack, but the pumpkins dropping bricks and sometimes annoying hitboxes make this boss a worthy final boss before the finale. Loadout: Spread/Chaser
- Funfair Fever: I found avoiding the balloons at the beginning and condiments at the ending hard to avoid, though it doesn't seem like a lot of people agreeing with me. Loadout: PeashooteChaser
C (fairly easy)
- Cagney: People love him, but I just found him average. Spread absolutely wrecks his machine gun attack, while his acorn/boomerang attack are just a jump or jump and a dash, respectively. Last phase has obvious telegraphing after your first attempt. Loadout: Spread/anything
- Cala Maria: First phase takes some adjusting as you'll nearly always get a bad combination of attacks, but afterward staying in her face makes the second phase a piece of cake. Last phase is also easy, but bad RNG can make it challenging. Mastering phase 1 is key.
- Werner Werman: Werner's first phase offers plenty of parry fodder and easy to avoid attacks (except for the slightly harder bombs). Phase two is chaos, while the last phase is quite easy (especially with super) after getting over the shock of Werner getting eaten. Loadout: Charge/anything
- Treetop Trouble: The combination of ladybugs at the beginning and falling platforms at the ending made this level once again a very stressful Run n' Gun. Loadout: doesn't matter
D (very easy)
- Root Pack: It is the tutorial boss after all...
- Goopy: The easiest boss in the game. You could beat him without even moving, just pressing dash and shoot (with smoke bomb of course). Other than moving around, he only has one attack in each phase.
- Sally Stageplay: First and second phases can be challenging but smoke bomb makes it easy. Third phase LITERALLY TELLS YOU what she is going to attack with. Last phase is a breeze with roundabout or chaser. Loadout: Roundabout or chaseCharge
- Forest Follies: The level you'll probably play even before any of the bosses. I would still say Goopy is easier though.
- Funhouse Frazzle: My favorite run n gun due to the gravity mechanic. However, I found it very easy especially with smoke bomb and chaser.
Overall Thoughts: Cuphead was a great game and I would say my gaming skill has definitely improved! I'm not good enough to replay on expert though. My favorite boss was probably Werner Werman and least favorite the Baroness (for design). Favorite run and gun was funhouse frazzle. Please share your thoughts! Everyone's opinion on this game is so different and I'd like to hear yours.

A Big Fat Review of NFS: Payback (By me)

THIS IS A REALLY LONG POST.
This is my big and rather long review of Need For Speed: Payback. I have been browsing around youtube and the reddit community to come up with both a compilation of my thoughts, but also the community’s as a whole. In this review I am going to also suggest alternatives as well as suggestions for ideas which could be changed or implemented into the next game. Generally, I have been avoiding reviews like IGN’s and Gamespot's due to them being made as fast as possible so they can get views as the game was trending, but also large youtubers who play the game to death either for sponsor revenue or because they don't have anything else to do with their time.
I am going to start this review with the arbitrary score, which for me is a 6. I know people don’t appreciate scores when it comes to reviews, but I want to cement my feelings about the quality of the game now, so that during the reviews overly negative areas don’t dig the game a large hole it can’t climb out of. With that being said, this review is going to be mainly constructive as I love the NFS franchise, and under Ghost games ownership at the moment, they have the best chance of making it succeed. With all this being said, I can now start the review
STORY
The story was to be honest, rubbish. I appreciate the effort and love ‘Fast and Furious’ as much as any other petrolhead, but this took it too far, and the execution was poor. I have memories of the story. Not for its quality or plot, but mainly its delivery and lacklustre writing. Now we need to remember that this is a racing game, and there is only so much you can do when it comes to storytelling in this format, but I really do feel that Payback underperformed in this area.
The worst part of the story for me was the opening section. This was due to bad and nonsensical storytelling as well as poor pacing and a lack of content. I was super hyped to play this game, and the hype train sort of derailed here. This part of the game is where you and your ‘legendary’ crew were going to steal the Gambler’s Koenigsegg Regera, and make lots of money (and so Mac can rebuild his Dad’s mustang). Pretty basic, but serviceable plot which could have worked. Right?
So you steal it and take it to Rav, where something happened to him, not sure what, (maybe he needed to go to the toilet real bad, who knows?) and Lina takes the car for the house. In an attempt to get away Tyler gets caught by the Gambler, and for some stupid reason, rather than; beating him up, killing him or arresting him, the Gambler is just like ‘Hey work for me Ty, we’ll get payback for something which is mostly your fault’ This made no sense to me and made me facepalm at that moment.
The story does get better towards the end, but at the end goes horribly wrong again. Why was Tyler doing the offroad part of the rush? Doesn’t that just remove the need for Mac’s character. Confused me but whatever. Also, wouldn’t the house have stood a better chance if the champion driver was racing, not Lina, who throughout the story proved she was terrible at her job. Confused me, and from what other redditors have said, they feel the same way.
The way to fix these story issues in my mind wouldn’t have been too hard. Having longer and more frequent cutscenes as well as a bit more anger between characters would have helped, and to solve how Tyler learned offroad driving for the rush, that's not too hard. Have a montage in which Mac and Tyler go out in Rav’s beetle, where Mac teach him the necessary skills and have a laugh along the way.
In conclusion to the story. It felt rushed, badly paced, full of cringy dialog and what good there was in it, there was not enough.
EVENTS AND BLOCKBUSTER MISSIONS
Blockbuster missions are absolutely amazing. I don't care that it’s sometimes reminiscent of Burnout. They are fun, unpredictable and where the game really comes to life. Double or Nothing was my favorite, due to the ridiculous stunts you and your crew pull off. Unlike the Fast and Furious dialog, this is what I enjoyed about its action movie vibe. Intense, fast and difficult missions where it isn't just about crossing the finish line in first. The next game or the story update, needs more of these, albeit toned down a little. I would like these missions to be cemented a tiny bit more in reality though. I preferred the police chases in the recent movie the ‘Baby Driver’ over ‘Fast and Furious 8’s closing sequence with the submarine. That might just be my opinion but, that's what I would like from future games.
The normal, circuit and sprint races are fine, they have good routes with varying lengths and locations. The only issue I have is that there aren't enough of them, which is an opinion that has been brought up in this Subreddit quite a lot. But besides that I have no issues at all.
The drag racing is fantastic when it works. I have had various issues which are downright frustrating like this one. (Clip: http://xboxdvr.com/gamemhorohello/video/39149708) However, besides this bug, there are 2 notorious drag races which made me scratch my head and go “Hang on, this doesn't look right”. These are both the sprint race around the city and the off road time trial in the mountains. Ghost, just don't do that again. It was hell. Just put these in the normal race categories and everything will be fine. The drag racing is enjoyable though, so i am fine with this as well.
The drifting is good, although not very challenging, partially because the handling makes it easy, but also because the target scores are far too low. The drifting feels too easy, I should have to redo some runs because in order to hit my target I need to get my entries and lines right, and also maintain my momentum. Also, there is only one drift mode, which confused me. The previous game in the series had touge’s as well as gymkhanas. Without these, you can get through the drifting challenges without actually upgrading your car very much. I defeated Noise Bomb, who I were expecting to be a hard challenge due to them originally being from NFS: Pro-Street, but my Tier 1 BRZ was more than capable of demolishing their scores. That is one seriously underwhelming ‘Drift King’. To make car upgrades necessary for the drift events, gymkhanas and touge’s need to return. Also, make drifting a little bit harder, give me more of a challenge next time around. If a 5 year old kid who got this game for christmas cannot complete an event, it doesn’t mean others can’t.
Runner events are something I am on the fence about. These missions are generally more story focused where you meet characters, possibly speak to them, but also spy on them sometimes. I liked the part with Detective Cross complaining and going back to rockport. Generally the content these missions hold is pretty good. However, these missions don’t have much variation. The Police chases are the most fun, however they have an issue which we all know needs addressing (Later in the review). However, the missions where you give VIP’s lifts from place to place. Firstly, I don't really understand why they are there, and secondly, why are they under time limits, these events don't really give you any sense of urgency. Just like some of the drag events, put these in the race category, so I feel the need for speed. The info pickup events are weird, and just like the VIP transport missions, don't really make too much sense. What could have been compiled into a cutscene is scattered around and under a time limit and I don’t really know why, and they weren’t that enjoyable. If runner could just not be in the next game, I don’t really care, these missions just give you more car upgrades to worry about if anything else.
Offroad is pretty bad. I don’t really know why it was needed in this game, if anything it caused the developers a pointless unneeded headache. The handling is more slippery than vaseline. There is a huge lack of cars, especially ones which go to level 399. (Bel Air or RSR is my choice). To be honest no one really asked for this, and nobody really enjoys ‘NFS on ice’. It feels like a pursuit of Forza Horizons offroad races as well as The Crew. Not something many enjoyed, and it isn’t something I really want to see again. Unless it is fixed next time around, just don't bother. I appreciate the effort, but it sucks. That's basically all I want to say.
CARS AND CUSTOMISATION
The car list is pretty extensive as well as varied. Despite a lack of Toyota which we know is not Ghosts’ fault, the car list is superb. It has all sorts of cars, far more British ones than I was expecting which was a nice surprise. All the vehicles are modeled in immaculate detail, which I find really impressive. They are much better than what The Crew and Forza have to offer and the high quality really makes screenshots look more impressive and realistic.
The graphical fidelity carries over to the visual customisation, which makes your dream cars feel closer to reality than other games manage (unless you own your dream car in which case nevermind.) There are generally a lot of parts, which is nice to see, except rims, which is a bit of a shame. If more could be added into the next game that would be fantastic. Some cars do feel neglected when it comes to customisation, from what I have heard the R32 and R34 GT-R’s don't have too much on offer, which considering they are tuner cars, is a disappointment. The MX-5 NA actually has less customisation than 2015, which is rather odd. Not sure why but I still have good looking MX-5 so I don’t mind too much. There is no option of normal and stretched tyres now, which again, is rather odd, but I can live with it.
Stance tuning has been restricted to just ride height and camber, which frustrates me as I cannot apply rake or track width settings anymore, which is annoying as on some of my cars, the fitment has been ruined. They have removed these features in favour of air suspension, which is pretty useless. I would rather have my track width and rake settings instead of air suspension, and a lot of reddit users I think feel the same way. This can hopefully be addressed next time around.
Vanity items are a good idea. But the way they were implemented is total bollocks. Using RNG drops to get these items was a horrific way of doing it. NOs colour, Tyre Smoke colour and Neons should be in the wrap editor, not in shipments. I don’t care for shipments. Just get rid of them. Air suspension is also a vanity item. This should live in the stance tuning if it actually needs to be in the game at all, and horns are just unnecessary, and I never want to hear the song ‘Drunken Sailor’ ever again.
The wrap editor is easy to use, has good controls and generally works well. There is a lack of some decals, which I haven’t personally had to many issues with, but others have so I have mentioned it. There are some mapping issues with bumpers and sideskirts, but on the whole it's serviceable and reliable. However sometimes online, my wraps don't load in, only the car's base colour, which can be annoying, but will probably get fixed, so I don't really mind that much.
CAR CLASSES, UPGRADES AND SHIPMENTS
Upgrades as you all know by now are done with speed cards. These are acquired at a ‘Tune-Up-Shop’ or after completing races. When I first saw this system at Gamescom or wherever else, It was a bad sign, and my worries were justified. The system sucks. The best way to improve this system is to just get rid of it. My game should not be ruined so that EA’s quest for my money is made easier by giving me time savers. I haven't bought any MTX or have really needed to, but that's what the game wants me to do, and it ruins the experience. Bringing back NFS 2015’s upgrade system, as well as adding Drag tyres to the upgrades will be fine. If you want brands, just give us sponsor payouts at races for brand synergy, not perk bonuses. Also, just let us buy what we want with Bank for reasonable prices. That's all we want for upgrades. If it ain't broken, don’t fix it
Car classes are pointless the more you think about it. They aren't needed when all the tuning options are available. If I had all of the car tuning options from NFS 2015 and a few others, I could build, drag cars, drift cars, race cars etc. I feel the car class system was implemented as a timesaver for the Dev’s or so EA can cause more grief when it comes to upgrades. Either way, next time around, if the class system is gone in favour for actual tuning, Like NFS 2015 or Underground 2 style, that would be better. Part perks are rubbish and make no logical sense (especially the jump perk) so, get rid of your crappy slot machines in favour of proper, in-depth mechanical tuning.
Shipments are pointless and awful and have no place in a racing game. Remove them. I don’t care how frequently I get them, I don't want them to be in the game in the first place.
THE MAP
Give the map designers a raise, or a wage increase or something. The map is varied, beautiful and a blast to drive around in. This saved the game for me as it's one of the best maps I seen in a racing game ever. A lot of thought and effort went into this, as well as polish. The mountain roads flow and have scenic vistas to look out on. The canyons feel deep and are fun to drive in, the city actually feels like a proper city and overall it's great to drive around. The shaders and textures which form the map are high quality and really look the part. Overall the map is probably the best part of this game.
However, the minimap is pretty useless. It shows a top down view of a very small area, unlike Forza’s which shows you what is in front of you for the next mile or two. This needs to be made a bit better as there are no longer any driving lines laid down on the roads helping me navigate anymore. Also, there is no distance to places displayed unless you are in an event or place down a location marker first. Also the actual map menu can feel cluttered, and the default setting, is ‘view all’, not ‘Locations’, which I feel should be swapped around, just to make navigating the map easier and more streamlined. Also, on activities, please put a bronze, silver or gold as the Icon, so I don't have to highlight millions of them to find one I haven't done.
The map does have some reset areas which are a bit too vigorous, like if you go to high on a jump or you are about to recover from a drift which went out a bit wide. Also, there are clipping issues with kerbs, bumps and other surface irregularities which can be frustrating.
There are no freeroaming cops as we know, this has been mentioned millions of times and is quite obviously a flaw. If bait crates were replaced by just normal cop chases, that would be fine by me. It would also help the map feel a bit more alive. However this topic has been covered quite a lot, so that's all I need to say.
MULTIPLAYER
This section is about the game’s multiplayer, or a lack of. I remember a post earlier this week about Will Ho saying all we wanted is racing when it comes to multiplayer. That statement was a mistake. There is a lack of multiplayer modes, like free roam, cop chases, drifting, drag etc. This needs to addressed in this game or the next because this really takes a chunk out of the game’s endgame and replay value, making the game feel dead quicker, which is a shame. This game has a huge map and variation of events that could make a solid multiplayer experience. In my opinion I prefer always online, to (basically) always offline. This may be just my opinion, but the game's multiplayer needs some serious work. This does include adding private lobbies.
Speedlists are seriously broken. If you are up against a skilled driver in a Regera, unless you are lucky as hell, you are going to lose. Luckily my Mclaren P1 can happily keep up, but if I want to use my preferred car, my BMW M4, I have to expect that I am going to lose. Also, tiered speedlists need to be a thing, I was originally building a car in every category in every performance tier for online, but now that seems pointless. Also, crash cams need to be removed from online, and there should just be a manual reset button when it does go wrong, so that the player is in control of the situation.
Other issues are that laggy or violent players cars are not ghosted, which means if someone is deliberately trying to ruin your race, they actually are able to. This also means players who are driving the wrong way around circuits, which is a pain to play against. Staggered starts to races need to be a thing, or ordering the grid in Performance index, with the highest at the front and lowest at the back, so that the absolute s**t show of car launches aren't occurring every race. This issue is partially the playerbases fault, as racing should be clean. None of us want to play burnout on ranked speedlists.
PHYSICS
The game's physics are much better than NFS 2015’s (except off road) which makes the game more fun to play. But when you compare this to other games in the genre, like Forza Horizon, Driveclub or even The Crew after a mountain of updates, this is where the ‘improvements’ begin to crumble. The game's handling is too handholding, and too easy. No mountain road is a challenge with my trusty handbrake, and the fact that spinning your car out is a much faster way of stopping than using the brakes, is rather weird. This game doesn't really require very much skill. I would describe this as easy to pick up, easy to master. Which is a shame. As many people have discussed, brake to drift is much faster than a grip tune, which in real life, is not accurate. I know this isn’t a simulator and I don't want it to be, but when I buy a game, I want a proper challenge, hence why I bought Cuphead, and rage about it to this day.
The best way to describe the physics is arcade. But like an actual arcade game, which you put 50p into and play for a few minutes. If it coded to be more like what The Crew and Driveclub have, that would be excellent, as it would be challenging, but not too hard. For the next game I would like a total overhaul of the physics, not necessarily Black Box handling, because to me it feels a bit too floaty, and when drifting, just plain weird.
CONCLUSION
Wow, this has been a long review, If you have read up to here, thank you for spending the time to read what I have to say. Inevitably some of this is my opinion, and if you disagree, that's fine, let me know what you think. This was a review written so that Ghost can make their game better and more fun for everyone, not to hate on them. As a company, I love Ghost and want them to keep working at it.
I have a few other honest reviews I will link below, which if you want to take a look at you can, and If you have any questions or queries you want me to respond to, let me know, I am happy to answer

My ideas for mods for Tboi.

0. Posts with more ideas:

Part 2

1. Trinkets:

2. Pills:

Mainly, the pills are good, because people usually hate them and do not use almost never.

  • Spirulina
Reveals parcially the map (treasure map, compass or blue map effect) Or Gives +0,1/0,15 dmg.
  • Nightmalisis
Removes the curse of the current floor, but spawn 3-5 random sheol enemies and the doors of the room are closed.
  • Elvanse
Isaac "dies" and a ghost (like the lost) appears. You can fly that room and shoot spectral tears. The body is motionless in the ground.
  • Resectum
Resets pills rotation or changes half of pills. It may not appear again in the rotation, only if the next pill is a vurp.
Some bad pills to balance all the good ones from above, but fun.
  • Primorosus
Isaac shoots in the opposite direction in which you click for 30 seconds.
  • Blue pill (Blue screen windows reference)
Now all pills change color and name randomly when you take them. You won't never know anymore what does what. I.e.: You use a red and white pill, you got "lemon party". After this, you got use blue pill. Now, you take a black and yellow pill, it becomes red and white in you pocket, and the text says "luck up" (the text is or ??? or a effect you got); but, upon use, you get "i can see forever" effect. The effects you can get are all of the rotation of the run (less if the idea "Resectum" exists too and with this idea). Lasts 10 minutes.
  • Dyslexia
Neutral pill, like "I found pills". All the text of the game (even menu maybe) until the end of the run has random words, numbers, letters and symbols. Lasts 5 minutes. Tl;dr: DYSL EX1A seed effect for a while.

3. Items:

  • Magic beans
    It's time to plant
Isaac's tears become green beans. Sprite of the beans
Upon hit, tears have a chance (prob like holy shots) to spawn a little climbing plant that not only remains in the ground, but also grows little by little. The climbing plant does dmg (Isaac's dmg*1.3) to the enemies that touch it (even flying enemies get damage).
Sprites of the Item i made (need update it with good outlines and all, they are old)
How the Climbing plants would grow
    Synergies:
    • Number one: Doesn't spawn climbing plants anymore.
    • Death's touch: If a scythe touch a climbing plant, this get destroyed. Get spawn yet.
    • Sad bombs and Both Fetus: Always spawn a climbing plant.
    • The Poop, Compost and Pinking Shears: While holding one of this active items, dmg of climbing plants goes from Isaac's dmg1.3 to Isaac's dmg1.5.
    • Bursting Sack, Infestation 2 and Spiderbaby: Climbing plants spawn each 2 blue spiders, for each item.
    • Skatole, Infestation and Mulligan: Climbing plants spawn each 2 blue flies, for each item.
    • One of the two above and chemical peel: Climbing plants don't spawn either flies or spiders anymore. But, growth is 2 times faster.
    • Butt bomb modifier: Climbing plants dmg goes from Isaac's dmg1.3 to Isaac's dmg1.4.
    • Sprinkler: Doubles climbing plants dmg when used.
    • Worm trinket and Tick: Halve the dmg of climbing plants.
    • Karma and Second Hand: Growth of climbing plants is 2 times faster.
    • Brimstone and Mom's Knife: Doesn't work anymore.
    • Tech. 0: A laser conect the plants of the room.
    • Strange Attractor: The climbing plants attract enemies and pickups not your tears.
    • Fire mind, ghost pepper and both candles: The fire destroy the climbing plants.
    • Hot bomb modifier: Destroy the climbing plants. If you have sad bombs or one of the fetus item, they won't spawn climbing plants.
    • Sulfuric Acid: Climbing plants can destroy rocks, pots, mushrooms, etc and open secret/super secret doors.
  • Fireworks
    So beautiful!
+1 shot speed. Visually maybe Isaac has a little rocket in his head with the fuse on. Isaac now fire little rockets that upon hit the enemies explodes with an effect like this, each one of different colours (i would put two colour, one for the center and other for outside, like red and yellow or blue and green). Gives a range up and the explosion does aoe dmg (i would say 0.5*Isaac's dmg).
    Synergies:
    • Parasyte, Cricket's body and compound fracture: Split tears generates fireworks too, but each split halves damage.
    • Both Fetus: Big fireworks, with double dmg (0.5*Isaac's dmg Isaac's dmg).
    • Brimstone: Rainbow brismtone with very little and tiny brimstone in all directions on impact.
    • Tech. 1 and 2: Does the shap of a firework on impact (with two colours laser).
    • Mom's Knife: Doesn't work anymore.
    • Mr. Mega: Aoe dmg doubles (0.5*Isaac's dmg Isaac's dmg).
    • More hitbox of tears gives more area of explosion (but doesn't do more dmg, only the hitbox grows).
    • Number one: Wet gunpowder. Isaac shoots little rockets yet, but they don't generate fireworks anymore.
    • Kamikaze: Upon use, Isaac himself generates a big firework that does double dmg (0.5*Isaac's dmg Isaac's dmg).
    • Ludovico Technique: The tear is a firework all time (Would work like a tear of god head with ludovico).
    • Ipecac: The little rocket does the arc upwards and the fireworks does double dmg (0.5*Isaac's dmg Isaac's dmg).
    • Polyphemus: Isaac shoots a big rocket that generates a firework that aoe dmg does 1.5*Isaac's dmg.
    • Red candle: The fireworks generate red flames from the explosion while holding the active.
    • Blue candle: The fireworks generate blue flames from the explosion while holding the active.
    • Pyromaniac: The explosion of fireworks heals.
    • Anti-gravity: Little rockets that are floating explode generating the fireworks. The fireworks remain in the air until release the fire key, becoming similar to god head tears (the outside of the fireworks is like an aura).
    • Rubber Cement: The rockets doesn't explode, so no more fireworks.
    • Lost Contact: Tears that block a projectile doesn't explode.
    • Mom's Pefume: The tears with cologne won't explode (wet gunpowder).
    • Fire Mind and Match Book: Gives double shot speed, plus fireworks can generate flames.
    • Dark Matter: Halves shot speed, aoe can put fear too.
    • Proptosis and lump of coal: The little rockets don't get the modifiers.
    • BBF: The explosion of BFF generates a big firework that aoe does Isaac's dmg.
    • Black Powder: Double Isaac's dmg.
  • Pine Puppet
I want to be a real kid. (reference to Pinocchio)
Is a puppet of Isaac. Isaac visually become a puppet. Change all red hearts to soul hearts. Get now always half a heart dmg, less fire dmg (touch it, explosions of fire mind or their shots from all types of bonfires) that becomes 3 hearts of dmg. When being hit, Isaac's nose (yes, now has one visible) grows until double spear of destiny range (needs 20 hits for max range), only decreases with "one makes you small" pill. While enemies are hit by the nose are paralyzed (one at time). If the nose touch a bonfire or enemie flame, the range will reset.
  • Cyanosis
    I feel slow
-0.3 speed, -1 tear delay. Isaac has blue circles under his eyes. Now Isaac, randomly, can become invulnerable a short period of time. Visually turns blue, like when uses breath of life.
    Item Sprite
Costume Sprite, for invencibility, just the breath of life costume more bluish.
  • Hypothermia
    I feel nothing
-0.3 speed, speed cap at 1.5 max (maybe 1.75). Isaac becomes inmune to spikes (on ground and doors), red poops and explosions. Touching any fire (even the blue and purple) heals red hearts (half heart per hit).
    Item Sprite
    Costume Sprite
    Synergies:
    • Fire mind: Becomes a lot more useful. If Isaac gets fire mind, the speed cap becomes 1,75x (maybe 2 like always), since gets warm. In addition, with hypothermia becomes immune to the explosions it produces and can be healed with the bonfires of the explosions.
  • Botton Pull
    From the deep ocean
When Isaac is going to receive a physical hit, there is a chance (50%) to appear a tentacle of his body (or near him) that pushes the enemy at a long distance. In flooded caves, it works 100% (too in flooded caves rooms of void).
    Synergies:
    • Flush: Since you can use in a boss (for example gemini) to flood the room and they will never hit you.
  • Berserk Exist how Leviticus Scroll, but without balance.
Let the beast of yourself comes out
Devil's deal item. Give +6,66 dmg (or 1,25x/1,5x dmg multiplier, stacking with the others). Isaac receive double dmg: 1 heart until womb, 2 hearts after and 4 from large champions.
    Synergies:
    * WafeCancePercs: Isaac receive half heart until womb, 1 heart after and 2 from large champions; back to normal basically. If you have 2 of them at same time, you get half heart dmg from all sources.
2 sprite i made for the face of Isaac with this item.
  • Chewing gum
    It's watermelon!
Isaac shoots pieces of pink chewing gum that link enemies, slowing them and difficulty his movement.
    Synergies:
    • Double slow if Isaac holds mysterious candy.
  • Soap
    Clean the bad.
Isaac now shoots bubbles that hitting an enemy have the opportunity to wrap their head in a bubble making Isaac dmg per second (depending on tear rate). Unlike snot shot, it doesn't dissappear until he die, but only can have one bubble.
Too, in a small area surrouding Isaac, cleans all creep. So become inmune to enemy's creep.
  • Tech. E (E from Epsilon or Echo)
    Echo, ech, ec, e, ...
Isaac now shoots lasers Like this that seem like echo waves and synergize with a lot of things. The laser has bounce effect.
    Synergies:
    • My Reflection: Shoots are similar to this: |i|. Of course have the boomerang effect.
    • Shoop da Whoop: Instead a brimstone laser, will shoot a white tech. E laser, with 25% more dmg.
    • Dr. Fetus: Shoots bombs with a vertical laser.
    • Epic Fetus: Tech. E doesn't work anymore.
    • Tech. 1, 2 or 0.5: Shoots both types of laser. With tech 2, Isaac won't shoot tears.
    • Mom's Knife: Shoot a knife that does a slash up and down and goes forward. Slash speed depends on shoot speed. Slash range depends on range.
    • Brimstones: Makes a large horizontal S.
    • Ludovico Technique: Doesn't work anymore.
    • Wiggle Worm: The vertical laser is double helix-shaped.
    • Hook Worm: The vertical laser is zig zag-shaped.
    • Ring Worm: The vertical laser is spring-shaped.
    • Whip Worm: The vertical laser is >-shaped.
    • Chocolate Milk: Will shoot normal tears again.
  • Map Adventure
Follow the clues to find a prize.
Passive item. Sprite is like this. If you have been in all the rooms of the floor (not counting glitch, crawling space and pact rooms; yes secret and super secret rooms), you will be rewarded with 5 random things (from pickups to items).
  • Afro
    The Power of the Afro
Gives +1 dmg, -1 tear delay, +1 luck. Immune to all dmg from large champions (the ones with decrease pitch and are big). Increases the chance of champion enemies appearing. Sprite of item and costume
  • Friendship Done, Thx Niro
    My friends are my strength
Gives +0,3 dmg and +1,5 range for each familiar you have. So, abel, bobby, maggy and a lot of (for now) useless familiars now become useful. Op synergie with Box of friends. Maybe synergize with Bff, giving +0,6 dmg and +3 range each, not sure about that. If you have no one, this item give one random familiar (the succubus wouldn't give the dmg multiplier).
  • Incontinence
    I can't control it
Isaac, randomly, drops a pool of 'lemonade' on the floor which damages any enemies that come into contact with it for 8 damage per tick (lemon mishap effect with same range). Lost Cork duplicates range. If you take (or had) number one, this item does nothing.
  • Static Electricity
    May cause sparks
Isaac visually has a balloon on his head. If Isaac remains in motion for 5 seconds, his body will start firing sparks of electricity in random directions in a small/middle area that does damage equal to his current tear damage. Sparks have a cadence similar to tech.5. The sparks will stop when Isaac stops. For example, you can do this to stay on move (Repeatedly pressing up and down or left and right).
  • Narcolepsy
    I will... Zzz
Isaac now randomly sleeps. Visually Isaac is sleeping and can't move for a short period of time (it's like a paralysis pill). After this, Isaac wakes and gets a soul heart. If Isaac is hit while sleeping, will receive dmg (maybe even double dmg) and will wake up, without getting the soul heart. Depending when Isaac sleeps, this object can be an advantage or disadvantage. Synergye: If you take speed ball, Isaac won't sleep anymore but randomly will heal a soul heart.
  • Dragon's Breath
    Made of garlic and chilli.
Isaac every 10 seconds will shoot a short-range flare that will cause massive damage (2*Isaac's dmg).
    Synergies:
    • Ghost Pepper: Doubles range of flare and can burn enemies.
    • Sad Onion: Reduces 2 seconds the time between flares.
    • Bucket of Lard: Reduce 1 second the time between flares.
    • Black candle: The flare is now black and can put fear to enemies.
    • Blue candle: While holding, the flare is blue and reduce 1 second the time between flares.
    • Sacred Heart: The flare is white with blue outlines. Dmg is 2.5*Isaac's dmg.
    • Mysterious Liquid: The flare is now green and poison enemies.
    • Continuum: The flare is pink and the flare is continuous, but dmg now is 0.2*Isaac's dmg.
    • Gimpy: Won't shoot flares anymore.
    • Brimstone: Won't shoot flares anymore, but the laser is orange and can burn.
  • Magic Tricks Done, Thx Niro
Full of tricks and a bunny
Active item. Only found in libraries. 5 charges (maybe 4). Can do several effects and appear a text (like rules card):
    • Open Sesame: Spawns a chest.
    • Is this your card?: Deck of Cards effect.
    • Now you see me, now you don't: 15 secs of invisibility.
    • Abracadabra: Spawns meat boy familiar, lvl 3.
    • Shemhamforash: Gives some enemies either fear or charm effect, nothing vs bosses.
    • Magic Fingers: Spawns a coin. High prob of lucky penny.
    • You will not pass (don't know if could be you shall not pass): Summons a wave of rocks in front of isaac.
    • Hocus Pocus: Sound of error (like fail of Portable Slot), does nothing.
    • Shazam: Crack the Sky effect, but only 3 beams.
    • Presto!: Is the rarest trick (like 3-5% chance, can grow with luck until 10%). Spawn a white rabbit that jumps a bit, winks and dissapear summoning a pedestal with Rabbit's Foot. Is other item, that can only be obtained in this way. Gives +7 luck (maybe +5) and doubles prob of dropped items like small rock, 25 cents, blood clot, etc.
      Synergies:
    • Magic 8 Ball: Effects are doubled. I.e. Spawns 2 coins, 30 secs of invisibility, spawns 2 cards, meat boy lvl 4, etc.
    • Spoon Bender: Magic Fingers can spawn a coin trinket.
    • Satanic Bible (Touched)/Abbadon if can't be possible: Shemhamforash gives a black heart now.
    • Crystal Ball (Touched)/Inner eye if can't be possible: Open Sesame gives treasure map effect too.
    • Car Battery: Does nothing.
    • The Wiz: You can only get Hocus Pocus, Abracadabra and Shazam.
    • Tarot Cloth/Ouija Board: While holding magic tricks book, this two don't work.
    • Ace of Spades (Trinket): More prob of Is this your card?
    • Faded Polaroid: More prob of Now you see me, now you don't
    • Poker Chip: More prob of Magic Fingers
  • Distress Done, Thx Niro What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger
Devil's deal item of two hearts. It's an all stats up, depending on your life:
    • 12 full hearts, you get +0.1 dmg, +0.15 speed, +3 luck.
    • 11 hearts and half, you get +0.15 dmg, +0.15 speed, doesn't give +3 luck.
    • From 11 hearts and half until 6 hearts, you get +0.1 dmg each. At 6 and half hearts, you get +1.15 dmg, +0.15 speed.
    • 6 hearts, you get +1.3 dmg, +0.3 speed.
    • From 6 hearts until half heart, you get +0.2 dmg. At one heart, you get +3.3 dmg, +0.3 speed.
    • At half heart, you get +5 dmg, +0.3 speed, -2 tear delay.
Op with The Lost mainly. Good for keeper, since with 2 coins you would get +2.9 dmg, +0.3 speed. At very least, it's a lil'dmg and speed up (11 hearts and half).
  • Popcorn Done, Thx Niro Better with butter.
Isaac's tears are now corn. When the tear touches something, it does the normal tear dmg and a popcorn is shooted backwards doing 1.5x tear dmg. Things that gives piercing or homing are good for this item. Spectral is bad.
    Synergies:
    • Brimstone: Isaac shoots brimstone normally, but after finish the attack, a brimstone shot will bounce back with wiggle worm and my reflection effects.
    • Mom's knife: Isaac throws normally the knife, when is coming back, two knifes come doing helix shape.
    • Sad bombs/Epic Fetus: The explosion throws popcorn directly. Epic fetus too, even without sad bombs.
    • My Reflection: Corn tends to comeback to Isaac, while popcorn tends to back to the enemy or object where impacted the corn tear.
    • Fire Mind: Isaac shoots popcorn directly, doing 1.5x tear dmg and other popcorn is shooted back doing the same dmg. Tears don't explode.
    • Explosivo: When the tear explodes, a popcorn is shooted.
    • Parasyte/Cricket's Body/Compound Fracture: Split tears are popcorn and other is shooted backwards like normally. Split tears don't shoot new tears backwards since are popcorn already and to prevent lag with some combos.
    • Tiny Planet: Popcorn is affected by it and revolves around too.
    • Milk!: Corn shots do now 1.25x tear dmg instead 1x. Popcorn shots remain 1.5x tear dmg.
    • Dead Tooth: Popcorn shots now do tear dmg instead 1.5x.
    • Butter!: While holding the trinket, Popcorn shots do now 1.75x tear dmg instead 1.5x. Corn shots remain 1x.
  • Pyramid of Tumors
    Gotta stick em all
Is like ball of bandages and cube of meat, does reference to Ash from TEiN. Is a black pyramid.
    • An orbital which blocks shots and damages enemies it comes into contact with for 7 damage per tick.
    • Exclusively drops from one of the horsemen bosses like others two.
    • 2 Pyramids of tumors transform the orbital into a tumor head (similar to Ash) which fires black tears which deal 2.5 damage each and has a chance to put slow.
    • 3 Pyramids of tumors transform it into a tumor boy familiar that walks around and deals 3.5 contact damage per tick to enemies. Leaves slow creep.
    • 4 Pyramids of tumors cause the tumor boy familiar to grow in size and do 5.5 damage per tick instead. Leaves slow creep.
    • Any further cubes of meat past 4 will start the cycle again like others two.
  • Fighting Spirit
    I won't give up
Isaac gets dmg up the more champions enemies are in the room (including bosses). Good synergye with champion belt, purple heart trinket (finally useful for something) and Afro idea from above. Good too with Champion seed.
  • Solfeo
    Follow the rhythm
Reference to Crypt of the Necrodancer. The border of the screen now beats (speed depends of tear rate), if you fire following the rhythm, you will get +0.1 dmg every shot until +5 dmg. With high tear rate, music will speed up; and with low tear rate, music will speed down too.
    Synergies:
    • Pentagram: Tears fired following the rhythm gets eye of belial effect (piercing + homing + double dmg + visual)
    • Metronome: While holding, +0.2 dmg every shot instead +0.1; so the max you can receive from the item is now +10 dmg.
    • Mom's Knife/Brimstone/Ludovico/Monstro's Lung/Tech. X: Lose Solfeo effect.
    • Soy Milk and 1 tear rate: You can fire leaving pressed the button like always, while don't release you will have the max dmg. So with Soy Milk, you will have +1 dmg.
    • Chocolate Milk: Spamming tears will get the dmg if follows the rhythm, charged shots won't.
  • Time Bomb
    3...2...1...Boom!
Bomb upgrades. When a bomb explodes put slow to all enemies for a bit. Very low chance to speed up the room or Stopwatch slow effect until clear or exit.
  • Cup with Straw
I could put it in my head
Active item. No charges. Unlimited uses. Reference to Cuphead. Upon use, change Isaac tears to other "modes":
    • Normal mode: No changes, only now Isaac has a costume and tears shape are blue fire balls (even if he change active).
    • Red mode: Isaac now shoots four tears at a time (without other items), get a dmg multiplier of 1.5x and get a lock of 10-15 range. Isaac tears are red prisms.
    • Green mode: Isaac gets homing and spectral tears, get a dmg multiplier of 0.75x too. Isaac tears are green stars.
    • Purple mode: Isaac tears get Hydrophobicity or Ipecac style, tears are cap at 15 too, get a dmg multiplier of 1.25x. Isaac tears are deformed and purple.
    • Yellow mode: Isaac needs charge shots, get a 1.25x dmg multiplier and lose -0.5 speed. Isaac tears are yellow and balls of fire.
    • Blue mode: Isaac tears get boomerang effect (My reflection) and +25 range up. If Isaac tears hit backwards do 2x dmg but if is a front hit do 0.5x dmg (Applies too to brimstone, tech, ludovico, etc). Isaac tears seems like a frisbee and are light blue.
    • White mode: Isaac tears get a 0.5 cap of shot speed and their hitbox doubles, tears can charm enemies. Isaac tears are white hearts.
    • Black mode: Isaac gets a 0.75x dmg down but every 20 tears (with +19 luck, Isaac only shoots special tears), a special tear that does 2.5x dmg is shot. Isaac tears are black, the special has a ring around it.
    • Special mode: Isaac gets +20 luck but a stats down. Isaac tears are clovers.
More to be added. Each mode would have a change in tears visually (less normal) but not only their color. If Isaac change active item, the mode activated will remain. Item and Costume Sprites
  • Funnel
From a land of dreams (Kirby's reference)
It's an active item of 4 charges. Upon use, Isaac opens big his mouth and inhale creating a little tornado Like this. He can move while. By absorbing 5-10 copies of the same enemy (maybe more), Isaac gains an effect for the rest of the run.
The effects you can get are as follows, depending who absorb (doesn't count for transformations):
-Angelic Baby: Isaac can flies with angel's wings.
-Flies (like attack fly): Skatole effect.
    -Baby Long Legs: Spiderbaby.
    -Begotten: Aries.
    -Bony: Compound Fracture.
-Globin: Leave a trail of green poisonous creep.
    -Eye: Tech 1.
    -Bloodshot Eye: Brimstone.
Etc. Maybe will put all effects buffs after.
Would be interesting a challenge with this item and 1-2 charges, in exchange of no items in all run.
  • Polymerization
    One for all
It's a Pothala Earring (reference to Dragon Ball), not sure about that. 2-3 charges, maybe even one. Fuses two things that are in the room (things Isaac is holding count as well or might not). If there are more than one option, chooses randomly. Items, pedestal or pickups. His best friend would be the new item Moving Box (in breaking runs mainly). Some examples:
    • 2 Cards: A new card with both effects. Good combos could be Jera + Jera, Jera + Perthro, 2 x 2 of diamonds, Devil + Empress, etc. Or have a new one:
      • 2 Holy card: Pedestal with Holy Mantle.
      • 2 Black Runes: Pedestal with Void or Blank rune (50% each)
      • 2 Get out of jail free card: A "Golden get out of jail free card" that opens pacts, boss rush, blue womb and void.
      • 2 Suicide King: Pedestal with Plan C and other with 1UP. You can take the two, one (1UP, cause Plan C is bad), or use again polymerization for get a random item.
      • 2 ? Card: Pedestal with Blank Card.
      • Emperor + Joker: Tp to boss room and guarantees pact after.
      • Sun + World: Ansuz Effect.
      • Ace of... + 2 of...: Changes consumables of the ground with ace of effect and duplicate them, not the inventory. That's if both (ace and 2) are the same (spades, for example), if not duplicates the inventory number and changes pickups to ace of effect.
      • Emergency Contact + High Priestess: Visually is like High Priestess, but can instakill all enemies (maybe less delirium like chaos card).
      • Ehwaz + Ansuz: Trapdoor to crawling space.
    • Key + battery: charged key
    • Penny + Penny: 65% a penny, 15% nickel. 14% lucky penny, 5% dime, 1% counterfeit penny.
    • Penny + Key: Penny or 25% chance of Flat penny.
    • Penny + Golden Key: Flat penny or Paper Clip (50% each).

    All or nothing
Now Isaac every 15 tears (up to 7 with +8 luck) shoots a card that can do two things:
+ All: (good outcome) The card goes trough a... 1. Pickup and duplicates it. For example, from one key to two keys. 2. Lock door and opens it. For example, Treasure room, shop, dice room, library and Isaac room. 3. Enemy and kills him. 4. Boss and slows him all fight. 5. Item pedestal and duplicates him. 6. Item to buy and becomes free (shop and devil's deal) + Nothing: (bad outcome) The card goes trough a... 1. Pickup and it dissappears. 2. Lock door and never can't be opened. 3. Enemy and duplicates him or becomes champion. 4. Boss and speeds him all fight. 5. Item pedestal and disappears. 6. Item to buy and disappears.
50% chance good outcome, 50% chace bad outcome. The effect is only applied one time (even with duplicate doesn't work anymore).

4. Cards:

  • Golden Ticket (reference to Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory)
    I can't believe i just got one!
Has 2 uses. While holding, you can enter in shops without key (store key basically). When you use it, all enemies in room get midas touch effect until they die or you leave the room, poops become golden poop (don't know if can be done).
  • 1000 Blank White Cards
    Draw 3 runes
Similar to Ancient Recall. Draw 3 runes (maybe only 2). Maybe has this sprite
  • Sacred Mushroom
    Your faith will reward you.
Spawns a flying mushroom (seems sacred) that chases enemies, when touch them creates a beam of light from the sky that deal damage equal to your tear damage + 20 to any enemies which come into contact or nearly it. Maybe has this sprite
  • The Bed
    Zzz...
Rare. Spawns a bed. Maybe has this sprite
  • Lottery ticket.
    Unexpected money.
Spawns 7 random coins around Isaac on the floor (like Pageant Boy) or spawns a golden heart. Minimal chance to spawn a quarter, a dollar, 3 dollar bill, coupon, store credit, silver dollar, swallowed penny, burnt penny, bloody penny, flat penny or counterfeit penny.
  • The Thief
    Do not steal
Rare. Tp to crawling space or 1/5 (maybe lower) to black market. 1/100 prob to tp to glitch room. Maybe has this sprite
  • The Loss
    It can be useful?
Rare. You lose the last item you have taken. Useful for trying to remove a bad object or test if you take that object would become a good synergy or is bad. The item spawns in a pedestal nearly Isaac. So can be good for rerolls. Maybe has this sprite

5. Consumables:

  • Good Morning Isaac or Plan R or "The Red Pill" (like suggested u/UnknownRoman18 for doing reference to Matrix)
Rare level like Suicide King. It's a little pillow (a red pill if his name is this, with different sprite of Plan C). It was just a dream. Resets the run. You are streaking and dont want to lose but you don't want to continue the run, it's the last resort. In the new run, Isaac has one item of the "dream run".
  • Binder Clip
Rare consumable. Is an use of moving box. You can pick all consumables, drops and items in the floor and move to other. To drop them, do the same you do when drop a trinket or card/pill Isaac is holding.
  • Rainbow Heart
Like rainbow poops, this heart heals all red life.
  • Copper Coin
    It's worth 3 or 7 pennies, randomly.

6. Miscellaneous:

  • Remove the limit of tears on the screen (100 tears).
  • Change pact in floor two.
In the floor two (basement 2, burning basement 2 and cellar 2), after kill the boss and fulfilling the usual requirements, should appear angel's pact room too. So you could choose which way to take on the run, Without having to pray to rng if you want angel's pact.
Maybe Even the two can be open all the way until taking an object (or pickup) from one of the two options. The next floors would be like always.
  • Gish, aside little gish, can drop ball of tar.
  • C.H.A.D., aside little c.h.a.d., can drop SMB Super Fan
  • Fix interaction between Ludovico Technique and Bookworm transformation.
