On your phone open chrome browser. Go to YouTube website. Using three dots in top right, go into desktop mode and use it.
Note: Once you exit the browser, the video would pause, you can open the notification centre and resume it. Works in android.

Lately, I've been getting into automation and accessibility with my phone. While I am definitely not the first one to use this, I think that I am evidence that someone with no coding knowledge can improve their life significantly when it comes to their phone and computer. The thing that I think has affected me the most is AdBlock.
Now, most of you are (hopefully) using an extension in your desktop browser, like uBlock Origin or AdGuard, but what you might not know is that you can actually block ads across your entire network using a service called AdGuard Home. (There are also alternatives, such as pi-hole, but let's focus on AdGuard)
All you need is a RaspberryPi, (almost any version works, works, and you can find a RasberryPi Zero for as little as $5), and about 10-30 minutes, depending on your proficiency with Linux. I'm not going to write a tutorial here, but you can find one here, or google "AdGuard raspberry pi."
What this does is that it blocks ads on your entire network, so whether you are on your phone or in an app, the ads will (probably) be disabled. The drawbacks of this are that not all ads are blocked (youtube is finicky,) and it requires a little common sense when it comes to computers. Luckily, there's another way...
Bringing us to Alternative Social Media Apps. There are currently many different apps for different social media platforms, almost all of which feature ad-blocking. Here are the ones that I'm currently using:

Youtube: Vanced
Blocks ads, skip sponsors using SponsorBlock, download videos, and get AMOLED dark mode, all for free. They also have a youtube music app, also with no ads, and also for free.
Note on vanced: Since it is so popular, many fake websites claim to have downloads. ONLY DOWNLOAD VANCED FROM https://vancedapp.com/
Facebook: Swipe for Facebook
A clean looking Facebook interface, with every feature of the main Facebook app, plus messenger, dark mode, and Ad Blocking (for an additional one-time fee), it is my personal Facebook app, and definitely worth the $5 or so to block sponsored posts.
Twitter: Owly for Twitter
While I personally use Flamingo (an app that is now removed from the app store due to Twitter's token limit), I have tried Owly and can say that it is definitely one of the best Twitter apps. They have a great looking UI, Ad blocking, Filters, video downloading, and tons more. They do have a $3 fee to access most of the features, but again, it's definitely worth it, plus you can always get a refund if you don't like it.
Reddit: Relay for Reddit
Reddit is a big one, and while Apollo is still my all-time favorite Reddit app, it's only available on IOS, so I use Relay. It has Ad Blocking, a WAY better interface and UI than the official Reddit app, and AMOLED Dark Mode. You can also scrub through videos, and it's just a generally better app than the normal one. If you like it, you can support the developer with the pro version (although there are no large differences between the pro and free versions.)
Instagram: Insta aero A good looking Instagram app with Ad Blocking, photo scaling, and AMOLED dark mode. Plus much more. Please only download from https://aeroinsta.com/
In general, using AdGuard and Alternative Apps are a great way to save money and not have to deal with CONSTANT ADS all around us. I hope this helps some people!

I recently get myself an ipad, the only apple things i had before was an ipod touch and a phone 6+.
The biggest pro is the build quality. It feels really good, the buttons and fingerprint reader work great and have nice feedback. The speakers are also very good, that was the first thing i noticed when i switched from a phone6 to an s8 a couple years back, apple has the best mobile speakers in my opinion.
The cons right now are:
A: The display. Idk how it is with other tablets but compared to my current phone the display is just simply worse. It isn't oled so the blacks are gray and the contrast is also meh. The ppi resolution isn't great either.
B: iOS. This is the biggest con for me by far. I am currently debating about returning it because of how restrictive the OS is. The only way you can install apps is in the appstore which only allows apps that are deemed worthy by apple. For example1: I am currently using youtube vanced on my phone, it is superior to the youtube app in every way imaginable, but its not on the appstore so i can only use the inferior version. Example2: I have a hbogo subscription in a neighbouring country but i can't download the app because its not available in my current country. I know i can use a different apple account to circumvent this, but why? Why cant i just download it from the internet?
Verdict: If you like ios there are basically no cons, but if you value using your device in a way that you would like to, without being arbitrarily limited, go for something different.

[ Introduction ]
This is my second post on the Vanced subreddit. My first is here.
Anyways, I just thought I would share one of the (many) ways to create a custom Vanced theme.
Keep in mind, this is just based on what I have tried and it has worked for me. I am not responsible for anything breaking (although I do not believe anything will).
I have tried to make this tutorial work as well as I can across all PC platforms. If I really messed something up, please reply to this post and I will include instructions for whatever platform you are using.
​
[ Prerequisites ]

• A computer
• A charging cable that can connect your device and computer
• Very basic knowledge of how to use command prompt / PowerShell / terminal. All commands which look like this are executed with one of those previously listed terminals
• Knowledge of your phone architecture type (x86, arm64_v8a, or armeabi_v7a are the options)
• Java JDK 8+ installed (Check with java -version)
• APKTool (Please include the wrapper script; it makes everything 10x easier. Check the installation with apktool -version)
• Android Studio (Used for the Android SDK Build Tools)

[ Android Studio ]
Android Studio is needed to use the commands adb, apksigner, and zipaligner. If you already have the Android Build Tools and the Android Platform Tools, you can safely skip this step.
After installing Android Studio, open it, and open settings (Alt + Ctrl + S or Command + , [comma] on Mac). Open Appearance & Behavior, then open System Settings within that, and finally, select Android SDK. Inside the Android SDK menu, head to SDK Tools and install both "Android SDK Build-Tools" and "Android SDK Platform-Tools."
Also, take note of the Android SDK Location if it is different than "C:\Users\{Name}\AppData\Local\Android\Sdk."

[ Adding to Path ]
There are two options for this step. I will only go over the first option for Windows.
[ Add to Path ]
If you would like the commands to be executed easier, consider adding the Build Tools and Platform Tools folders to your PATH environment variable. If you don't have a Windows OS, you can search for the steps that will work for your OS, OR you can look at the second option to skip this step.
Windows:

1. Search environment variables in the windows search
2. On the page that pops up, open Environment Variables at the bottom
3. Under User variables, scroll down to Path (or create it if it is not there)
   1. If you are creating the User variable, set the variable name to "Path" and variable value to "%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Android\Sdk\platform-tools;%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Android\Sdk\build-tools\{build tools version. Check Android Studio for the version}"
   2. If the Path variable already exists under USER VARIABLES (Not under system variables), click Edit and make a new entry with "%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Android\Sdk\platform-tools}" and another with "%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Android\Sdk\build-tools\{build tools version. Check Android Studio for the version}"
   3. Please keep in mind, the Android SDK Location may be different than %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Android\Sdk. If you are unsure what it is, check the Android Studio settings. Head to Appearance & Behavior -> System Settings -> Android SDK and it will give you the Android SDK Location.
4. Check that you added it all correctly by executing the commands adb version and apksigner --version.

[ Do Not Add to Path ]
If you choose not to do the above step OR if you don't use a Windows OS, then take these steps:

• C:\Users\{Name}\AppData\Local\Android\Sdk\build-tools\{build tools version}\apksigner.bat for all apksigner commands
• C:\Users\{Name}\AppData\Local\Android\Sdk\build-tools\{build tools version}\zipalign.exe for all zipalign commands
• C:\Users\{Name}\AppData\Local\Android\Sdk\platform-tools\adb.exe for all adb commands

Replace "C:\Users\{Name}\AppData\Local\Android\Sdk\" with your Android SDK Location if it is different from that. If it was different, then you noted it while setting up Android Studio. Make sure the rest of the location is the same as above, though.

[ Decoding the APK ]
Okay, after you have done all of that, you now need to download the Theme apk and decode it.

1. Download the APK from here if you are not rooted and here if you are rooted. Keep in mind: this is for version 15.38.35. For later versions, check how to download the APKs here.
2. Make a new folder on your desktop and place the APK into it.
3. Run the command apktool d black.apk -o black-decoded.

[ Changing the Theme ]
After the APK decoding, you can now move onto the fun part. Modifying the APK's theme.
Head into the res folder, go down to values, and open colors.xml.
Some of the values I have changed are posted here to make Vanced Pink.
To change the images, head into the other folders within the res folder.
​
[ Building the APK ]
After modifying the values of the colors.xml file and any other res file changes, you are going to rebuild the APK.
Simply run the command apktool b black-decoded -o themed.apk.
​
[ Zipalign ]
Now you are going to align the APKs with zipalign.

1. Download the other APKs for Vanced. Check here for directions.
   1. As an example: I personally need to download non-root split_config.arm64_v8a.apk and split_config.en.apk.
2. Place the other APKs into the folder.
3. For each of the APKs, run zipalign -v -p 4 apk1.apk apk1-unsigned.ap but replace "apk1" with: "themed" then "split_config.{lang}" and then "split_config.{arch}"
   1. As an example: zipalign -v -p 4 themed.apk themed-unsigned.apk

[ Signing the APKs ]
Now you need to sign each of the APKs.

1. Open command prompt or terminal in the folder
   1. Run the command cd %USERPROFILE%/Desktop/{folder name} or wherever the folder is
2. Now create a JKS key
   1. Run the command keytool -genkey -v -keystore keystore.jks -alias ssl -keyalg RSA -sigalg SHA256withRSA -validity 1000 -keysize 2048
      1. If there is an error when running this, make sure your Java Development Kit is set up correctly
3. Now sign the APKs
   1. Run the commands apksigner sign --ks keystore.jks --out apk1-signed.apk apk1-unsigned.apk but replace "apk1" with: "themed" then "split_config.{lang}" and then "split_config.{arch}"
      1. For example" apksigner sign --ks keystore.jks --out themed-signed.apk themed-unsigned.apk
4. Keep the command prompt/terminal open for the next step

[ Installing onto Device ]
Finally, you are able to install the APKs onto your device.

1. Make sure the device has USB Debugging on
   1. Open the device's settings
   2. Go down to "About Phone" and open it
   3. Scroll down to Build Number and repeatedly tap it until you gain access to Developer Options
   4. Open developer options
   5. Scroll down to USB Debugging and turn it on
2. Delete Vanced
3. Connect your phone to your computer with a charging cable
4. In the Command Prompt/Terminal run the command adb install-multiple themed-signed.apk split_config.{lang}-signed.apk split_config.{arch}-signed.apk
5. Vanced with your custom theme should now be on your phone!

[ Conclusion ]
I spent a tremendous amount of time creating this post so I hope it works for you as it did for me. If you have questions, make sure to reply with them below or tag me in a new post. I would also recommend you keep the files you change so it is easier to modify them for a new version of YouTube Vanced.
If there is a new Vanced version when you are reading this, and you are updating your custom theme with this tutorial, make sure that you do not just throw the old "colors.xml" file into the values folder, and instead, check the differences between the two files.

Seeking suggestions - I don't have an iOS device so comment down below if you know of good apps!

I have been analyzing this app because a couple of people requested me to do so. I have grabbed my stock Youtube apk from my phone, scanned them both.
One of my acquaintances has said original and Vanced app have differences in permissions. I have compared them and have seen the permissions below are extra in Vanced.
android.permission.RECEIVE_SMS android.permission.SEND_SMS com.vanced.android.youtube.permission.C2D_MESSAGE
While I told him RECEIVE_SMS and SEND_SMS can be disabled from permission section of the app settings (and the permissions are asked on the request in newer phones anyway, which renders them disabled until explicitly asked), the other one appeared us the most suspicious because it uses com.vanced.android instead of standard com.android.
So my questions are:

• Why are RECEIVE_SMS and SEND_SMS required in Vanced, differing from the standard YouTube app?
• Why is com.vanced.android custom permission used instead of com.android one?

Regarding the Difference

This post was a quick one. I had limited time while writing it. So let me give some detail.
You can already see two VirusTotal scans above. In case you have not:

• Vanced Dark Legacy Scan
• Standard/Stock Youtube App Scan

If you ask how I got stock Youtube APK, I have extracted it from my device (not a third-party site), which is "General Mobile GM5 Pro". It comes with Android 7 but is now at Android 8.
If you go to "Details" tab on scans, you can see various details about the APK package such as what strings it contains, what permissions it requires et cetera. I have got both APKs' permissions.

• Standard Youtube Permissions
• Vanced Permissions

If you compare the two, Vanced has extra permissions, differing from standard Youtube app. Those are:
android.permission.RECEIVE_SMS android.permission.SEND_SMS com.vanced.android.youtube.permission.C2D_MESSAGE
And also there's one com.mgoogle one but it's a MicroG permission. It's not a problem.
That's how I acquired the info.

Regarding SMS

As most of you guys have probably realized, the presence of RECEIVE_SMS and SEND_SMS permissions is pretty useless. AFAIK, the new Android system requires the app to explicitly request the permission. Many permissions get asked to the user saying "This app wants to access SMS/Location/Camera/Microphone. Do you allow it?". Until you allow it, these permissions come disabled.
However, this is only true for newer Android devices. AFAIK, this system is used since Android 7 or 8 (i don't remember). The older versions were asking for permissions before install and activating it before installation, this caused a lot of security headaches and privacy concerns. That's why Google has changed it.
So it's not a real problem, it's just weird it exists. The problem is with the other permission.

Regarding C2D_MESSAGE Permission

Standard/stock Youtube app utilizes this permission under the FQN com.android meanwhile Youtube Vanced uses a custom permission named com.vanced.android. C2D stands for "cloud to device messaging", responsible for operations such as notifications or data-sync to the cloud server (maybe?).
The FQN difference shows another implementation of standard permission was probably required while in development. That's the thing I'd like to know. Why is it different and what does com.vanced.android...C2D_MESSAGE permission do?

My typical daily driver is my old iPhone 7+, a phone I've been largely happy with ever since I gave up Android after my lackluster time with the OnePlus 2.
I've been using the ROG 2 as my main phone ever since I got a hold of it back in early March. This wasn't a phone I bought or would even entertain the idea of buying, rather this phone ended up in my hands after my sister rejected it because the 120hz screen was something she didn't care for and the colossal size put her off. The gaming-centric features of the phone was lost to her despite being a heavy mobile gamer.
There are two variants of the Rog 2, one the International Version and the other being the Tencent Version. I have the Tencent Version that's been flashed with the ROM of the International Version. Doing so gives me access to the play store and a buch of other apps that's blocked in China. The flash isn't perfect however, I can't use Netflix with it.
Given that I haven't used Android for a while this will be a take on both Android and Rog 2.
Here's a summary of what I think:

• The phone is absolutely colossal, not as colossal as the Energizer phone but still pretty huge. It makes my 7+ with the Otterbox Symmetry feel small.
  
• The huge size does have benefit of having a bigass battery. My 7+ never really left me wanting for more battery life but having 2-3 day battery life on the Rog 2 is a real treat.
  
• The huge size also reveals one my main gripe with Android: the One-Handed mode is complete utter garbage. For the Rog 2, One-Handed mode is activated by double-tapping the home button, problem was that Google decided it was a good fucking idea to bind Google Assistant to it without the option to rebind it. So whenever I tried to use One-Handed mode, the Assistant also triggers, which triggers me greatly.
  
• Android's style of One-Handed mode is also incredibly stupid. It involves reducing the screensize proportionally so that one can reach the upper parts of the screen, problem is it also reduces the icons and other buttons by the same ratio so the odds of fat-fingering something is really high. iOS' Reachability is much more elegant and just so much better. Android's implementation is one of those things that are so forehead-slappingly obviously bad you'd wonder why they bother implementing it in it's current state. You'd think that for an OS that is known to have lots of huge-ass phones this is something they'd get right, but no. And of all the things to copy from Apple, why not their Reachability.
  
• As someone who has a gaming pc with a high-refresh rate screen, a 120hz panel on a phone is really nice. It easily feels smoother than my 7+ and eons ahead my choppy OP2. Granted my gripe with Android not being smooth has more to do with inconsistent frametimes and stuttering, not the lack of high-refresh rate screens.
  
• The OLED panel was something I expected to blow me away. It didn't, at least not this particular panel. I remember being told that looking at an OLED screen in pitch darkness, the icons would look like they were floating in midair. It just didn't feel that way; yes the blacks were quite deep and colors vibrant but didn't feel any different from 7+'s screen.
  
• Speaking of the screen, the in-screen fingerprint scanner is something I have mixed feelings about. It's about as fast the OP2's scanner; which is considered slow by today's standards but isn't bad really. My main gripe is reliability, which is ass. As someone who tends to have dry fingers my 7+ and OP2's scanners work much better. With the Rog 2, I routinely find myself having to type in the passcode instead. This is one of the non-gamer-centric things they should've definitely invested more time in.
  
• The speakers are phenomenal. They get really loud without getting distorted at max volume. They're so good that I find myself watching more YouTube vidoes on it just before I sleep (though admittedly access to YouTube Vanced, which isn't a thing on iOS, is main enabler here)
  
• As someone who doesn't take a lot of photos, I think the cameras are just fine, but lower in quality compared to the 7+. I find that the photos lacking in sharpness around the edges of certain objects. An example would be that one time I took a photo my car's steering wheel, the stiching is blurrier on the Rog 2 than it did on the 7+. I also find that the colors are brighter and somewhat more vibrant than the 7+. Doesn't look bad but it's not my preference, I prefer my photos to be the most accurate representation of what my eyes see for better or worse. Installing GCam did place the color calibration on par with the 7+ but I'm not certain if it did the same thing for the sharpness.
  
• As someone whose gaming rig doesn't have rgb and doesn't have the "leet haxxor gamerz" aesthetic, the Rog 2's looks was something that's never in my ballpark. But still I like it, even if it's only for it's utter uniqueness in the sea of demure premium phones.
  
• It having a glass back is something that annoys me simply because it didn't need to have it, given that it doesn't have wireless charging.
  
• Speaking of charging, despite it's massive 6000 mAh battery, charging is quick because of the included quick-charger. Something you can't say for Apple these days. I don't, however, like the fact that I can't use the Usb C port on the side directly for charging. I need to use the cooling fan as a pass through if I hope to use the side port for charging. Unfortunately, the Tecent Version omits the additional accessories to keep the cost low.
  
• AirTriggers: I love them. Yes I don't play games on my phone at all, in fact the only time I extensively played on a phone was for the purpose of testing this phone. Still I love the AirTriggers as a concept and the way it's been implemented, I firmly believe that shitty on-screen controls are one of mobile gaming's biggest hurdles. Having controls that doesn't involve blocking the screen with your hands is a step in the right direction.
  
• While on the topic of hardware, I appreciate the fact that they actually included a headphone jack. I will admit however that I haven't actually used them in roughly the 2 months I had this phone (and no I still think Apple's omission of it is still incredibly anti-consumer).
  
• I'm disappointed however at the lack of water-resistance. I don't find myself getting exposed to rain that often, but still a form of water protection for a piece of tech that's most likely to receive unintentional abuse would be nice. I happily give up the kick-ass speakers and that small cooling vent if I have to.
  
• Performance: this is one of the reason I'm interested in this phone and the main factor I switched to iOS despite it's restrictiveness and mandatory iTunes usage for desktop connections. I'm happy to say that it delivers. I've yet to experience frame-drops and stuttering and the 8gb of RAM (as opposed to the 7+'s 3) means that I don't drop apps by merely using another one for about an hour or so. All too often I find myself looking for that Reddit thread I was lurking on after watching a 30 min vid on YouTube on the 7+ since it decided to drop it prematurely.
  
• While the 7+'s A10 chip has held it's performance like a champ (at least for what I use it for), I'm not sure how well will the SD 855+ age. My last impression of Android longevity was the SD 810 on my OP2 and my dad's One M9 and my sister's S7 Edge with the SD 820. None has aged gracefully with the OP2 needing a restart roughly every 4 days lest the stutters come back.
  

As the time or writing, I decided to place my sim back to the 7+ for two reasons, Reachability and TouchID. There are other gripes, yes, such as the size and lack of water resistance, but those I can live with had it not been for those two deal breakers. As a whole I think there's a lot to like about the Rog 2 and that Android YouTube community adoration for it isn't limited to spec-sheet dick measuring.
The International Version costs 1500 cad or 900 usd. While the Tecent Version isn't available locally. My dad told me that he got the Tecent Version for about 500 cad when he went to Asia. So all in all, considering how much my dad got it for, the Rog 2 is one hell of a phone despite the small gripes I have against it. I really can't think of another phone, used flagships of yesteryear aside, that will go toe-to-toe with this for 500 cad.

Well for people who play DnD online 5etools is probably a well know resource. If you dont know it, it basically has every information that the official material offers to quickly look up. Super handy and I am glad that they made a phone version. Imo it could be further optimized but I am just happy that I have it as a standalone app.

This is a really cool app and I use it a ton. Basically it shows you all research papers that were published in a particular journal. You can customize which journals you want to see and from which fields. Then you can link your Uni account or some other way of authorization to check if you have access to the paper you want to read. It is really good for me because I read a lot of papers out of my own field of studies. This is also where define comes into play because I read a lot outside of my field of study there are often words or concepts unknown for me so it is great to quickly look them up to help further my understanding of the concepts.

Hello everyone. Effortpost incoming. I do not usually post here but have considered starting.
After reading this post and its comments, it is clear to me that most users on this forum do not know what queer theory is. So this is an introduction to queer theory. I am covering basic concepts: use of language, beliefs about identity, and relationship to radical feminism. I am writing this to clear up what I believe are obvious misconceptions both trans-accepting and trans-denialist people seem to have, and to serve as a masterpost link to others making misstatements about queer theory in the future.
I am a queer feminist. More relevant to this forum, I am transgender. I have read feminist theory and queer theory since I was a teenager. I am a queer advocate and a woman advocate. I say this is to make clear that I am partisan. However, I hope this is well-cited enough that all parties find it helpful. I have tried to speak as simply as possible.

What Is Queer Theory?

In this primer, I will repeatedly stress the following analogy: queer theory is to sex-gender nonconformity as feminist theory is to women. I say "sex-gender nonconformity" to express the full breadth of queer theory, which can range from intersex writers (Iain Moorland, Morgan Holmes), to studies in something as seemingly superficial as drag (The Drag King Book, Judith Butler), to racial intersections (Mia McKenzie, Tourmaline) & Che Gossett) and postcolonial third genders (Qwo-Li Driskill).
Like feminist theory, queer theory is not one thing. It is a collection of diverse approaches to explaining the condition of sex-gender nonconformity in society, and, in the case of radical queers, improving that condition towards the radical end goal of the abolition of all sex-gender norms. Like feminist theory, queer theory is theory. Not all feminism is feminist theory. Not all queer advocacy is queer theory. Queer studies is not queer theory. Queer history is not queer theory. Queer praxis is not queer theory. Being queer is not queer theory.

Queer Theory & Language

Not all people who practice sex-gender nonconformity consider themselves queer. In fact, some consider the word exclusionary or pejorative. This is no more exceptional than the fact that some women do not consider themselves feminists, and consider the word exclusionary or pejorative.
Just as some black women reject feminism as being white (Clenora Hudson-Weems), some black sex-gender nonconformers reject queerness as being white (Cleo Manago). And just as some women reject feminist theory as harmful to society (Esther Vilar), some sex-gender nonconforming people reject queer theory as harmful to society (Sheila Jeffreys).
This problem, in which the purported subjects of a theory actively reject it, and even their positions as subjects within it, is no more destructive for queer advocacy than it is for feminism. The challenge has been answered affirmationally in various ways in both queer theory and feminist theory (MacKinnon, Toward a Feminist Theory of the State, pgs. 115-117; Dworkin, Right Wing Women; Haraway, A Cyborg Manifesto; Stone, A Posttranssexual Manifesto).
However, because much more of queer theory takes its subject's status as queer to be uncontroversially entirely socially constructed, and its use of language to be therefore open to social change, queer theorists encounter this problem less often than feminist theorists. We usually acknowledge that, in forcing people to be queer or not queer, we are passively reinforcing the exact forms of oppression we seek to end through our analyses. Leslie Feinberg, who did not use the word queer as a political identity, noted in hir Transgender Liberation (1992):

Transgendered people are demanding the right to choose our own self-definitions. The language used in this pamphlet may quickly become outdated as the gender community coalesces and organizes—a wonderful problem.

Today, Feinberg's "transgender[ed] people" is now most often used apolitically, for what was once called "transgenderists": the demographic of those who live or attempt to live, socially, as a sex-gender outside of that first placed on their birth certificate. "Queer" has come to have most of the solidarity-driven political meaning of Feinberg's "transgender." However, Feinberg's conception of "transgender" is not uncommon today.
Insofar as queer advocacy permits its subjects to change, establishing their own voice, own vocabulary, own concerns, and own dissent, while feminism does not, the two must be antagonistic. Riki Wilchins addresses this tension directly in hir essay "Deconstructing Trans":

Genderqueerness would seem to be a natural avenue for feminism to contest Woman's equation with nurturance, femininity, and reproduction: in short to trouble the project of Man. Yet feminists have been loath to take that avenue, in no small part because queering Woman threatens the very category on which feminism depends.

However, Wilchins is wrong: this tension between feminist theory and queer theory is local to specific versions of queer advocacy and feminism, and is not inherent to either.

Queer Theory & Gender Identity

What the hecky, y'all? Queer theory rejects gender identity politics almost unconditionally. Get it right.
There are very few things queer theorists universally agree on: this is one. In fact, queer theorists reject sexual identity politics almost unconditionally (e.g. Rosemary Hennessy, Profit and Pleasure: Sexual Identities in Late Capitalism). Queer theorists regularly assert that all identity formation (including identity formation as a man or woman, flat) and even the very concept of selfhood emerge as a regulatory apparatus of power, usually that of The State. These critiques in queer theory are developed out of postmodern critiques of identity and the self. Consider, for example, these quotes from Deleuze & Guattari's A Thousand Plateaus:

To write is perhaps to bring this assemblage of the unconscious to the light of day, to select the whispering voices, to gather the tribes and secret idioms from which I extract something I call my Self (Moi). I is an order-word.
Where psychoanalysis says, "Stop, find your self again," we should say instead, "Let's go further still, we haven't found our BwO yet, we haven't sufficiently dismantled our self." Substitute forgetting for anamnesis, experimentation for interpretation. Find your body without organs. Find out how to make it.
There is no longer a Self (Moi) that feels, acts, and recalls; there is "a glowing fog, a dark yellow mist" that has affects and experiences movements, speeds.

This denial of self is directly tied to Deleuze's concept of becoming-minority), and is constructed again and again and again in queer theoretic concepts: in anti-sociality, in death drive, in anal sublimation and butch abjection, just over and over and over again. Anyone who does not understand this general concept does not understand a single thing about queer theory, straight up.
Among the transgender population specifically, it is extremely easy to find transgender people rejecting the concept of gender identity as something forced upon us by a cisgender establishment which has all the power. It's easy to find on writing. It's easy to find on video. It's easy to find on reddit. And most of us aren't even queer theorists.
So, what is it queer theorists do, if not snort identity for breakfast? Well, generally, we sort through history, literature, science, language, the social psyche, most especially real-life experience, and whatever else we can ooze our brainjuices over to analyze and undo the structures of our oppression, the very means through which we become "queer." We argue that this oppression and our position as uniquely oppressed subjects within it is socially constructed, unnecessary, and morally outrageous. And, on most analyses, this is what many feminist theorists do with women, as well. Few have even argued that, in a culture that constructs manhood as its norm, there is a sense in which to be a "woman" is also to be "queer."

Queer Theory & Radical Feminism

It has never been clear what radical feminism is. In general, I understand people who call themselves or are called "radical feminists" to be one of the following:

• Socialist feminists, who assert women are a class in some previously understood, usually Marxist sense, who must achieve liberation through techniques espoused in pre-existing theory, e.g. wages for housework.
• Post-Marxist feminists, who assert women are a "sex-class," where "class" is some new, peculiarly feminist sense of the word, who must achieve liberation through some specifically feminist method yet to be decided, outside of Marxist, anarchist, or liberal methodologies. Its origins are often supposed to be Shulamith Firestone's The Dialectic of Sex. Post-Marxist radical feminism is usually considered "true" radical feminism, or even just feminism, proper (MacKinnon, Toward a Feminist Theory of the State, pg. 117).
• Cultural feminists, who assert "man" and "woman" compose two competing cultures, and (more importantly) "feminism" as women's culture. Under this view, there can be no end to feminism because women cannot achieve equality, only the dominance of female culture. Men cannot be feminists because feminism is not a political position. Cultural feminists are ambivalent about their positioning on a left or right which are both seen as "male culture." Cultural feminists often call for a return to "the natural order," and approve of "biologism," the belief that one's cultural categorization is and should be derived from biology. Their purpose is to preserve women as feminists rather than achieve the radical goal which is the abolition of all classes. See Mary Daly's Gyn/Ecology; Valerie Solanas, SCUM Manifesto; Adrienne Rich, Of Woman Born. Not all cultural feminists claim to be radical (or cultural); see écriture féminine.

On cultural feminism, radical feminist historian Alice Echols noted in The Taming of the Id (1984):

I believe that what we have come to identify as radical feminism represents such a fundamental departure from its radical feminist roots that it requires renaming.

Brooke Williams's Redstocking's piece The Retreat to Cultural Feminism (1975) begins:

Many women feel that the women’s movement is currently at an impasse. This paper takes the position that this is due to a deradicalizing and distortion of feminism which has resulted in, among other things,"cultural feminism.”

Inasmuch as cultural feminism asserts "man" and "woman" as essential and non-relative social categories in need of preservation, queer theory can have no truck with radical feminism, because radical feminism maintains a cultural institution which is usually seen as a major genesis of queer oppression.
However, insofar as radical feminism is post-Marxist, it is often deeply aligned with queer theory. Queer theory is also usually post-Marxist, as postmodernism was developed partly in response to the failures of Marxism. Queer advocacy often adopts radical feminist methodology, particularly consciousness raising. Many radical feminists effectively advocate queerness, in what Andrea Dworkin calls a "political, ideological, and strategic confrontation with the sex-class system," as a necessary part of feminism. Please consider what radical feminists and queer advocates have historically said about the following topics common to both:

Family Reform:
RadFem: "So paternal right replaces maternal right: transmission of property is from father to son and no longer from woman to her clan. This is the advent of the patriarchal family founded on private property. In such a family woman is oppressed." (De Beauvoir, Second Sex) "Patching up with band-aids the casualties of the aborted feminist revolution, it [Freudianism] succeeded in quieting the immense social unrest and role confusion that followed in the wake of the first attack on the rigid patriarchal family." (Shulamith Firestone, Dialectic of Sex, pg. 70).
Queer: "The family has become the locus of retention and resonance of all the social determinations. It falls to the reactionary investment of the capitalist field to apply all the social images to the simulcra of the restricted family, with the result that, wherever one turns, one no longer finds anything but father-mother - this Oedipal filth that sticks to our skin." (Deleuze & Guattari, Anti-Oedipus, pg. 269)
Pansexuality:
RadFem: "[Through feminist revolution] A reversion to an unobstructed pansexuality - Freud's 'polymorphous perversity' - would probably supersede hetero/homo/bi-sexuality." (Firestone, Dialectic of Sex, pg. 11)
Queer: "When queerness began to mean little more than 'pansexual activist', Bash Back! became a liberal social scene rather than a space from which to attack, which i think had been the whole point of bashing back all along." (Interview with Not Yr Cister Press, Queer Ultraviolence: Bash Back! Anthology, pg. 385)
Degendered Gestation:
RadFem: "Scientific advances which threaten to further weaken or sever altogether the connection between sex and reproduction have scarcely been realized culturally. That the scientific revolution has had virtually no effect on feminism only illustrates the political nature of the problem: the goals of feminism can never be achieved through evolution, but only through revolution." (Firestone, Dialectic of Sex, pg. 31)
Queer: "The gender of gestating is ambiguous. I am not talking about pregnancy’s deepening of one’s voice, its carpeting of one’s legs in bristly hair, or even about the ancient Greek belief that it was an analogue of men’s duty to die in battle if called upon. I am not even thinking of the heterogeneity of those who gestate. Rather, in a context where political economists are talking constantly of “the feminization of labor,” it seems to me that the economic gendering of the work itself—gestating is work, as Merve Emre says—is not as clear-cut as it would appear." (Sophie Lewis, All Reproduction is Assisted)
Institutional Debinarization:
RadFem: "[A]ll forms of sexual interaction which are directly rooted in the multisexual nature of people must be part of the fabric of human life, accepted into the lexicon of human possibility, integrated into the forms of human community. By redefining human sexuality, or by defining it correctly, we can transform human relation­ship and the institutions which seek to control that rela­tionship. Sex as the power dynamic between men and women, its primary form sadomasochism, is what we know now. Sex as community between humans, our shared humanity, is the world we must build." (Andrea Dworkin, Woman Hating, pg. 183)
Queer: "'Boy' and 'girl' do not tell the genital truth that Zippora knows. Quite the opposite: instead of describing her baby’s sex, these words socially enact the sex they name... Intersexuality robs 'boy' and 'girl' of referents, but it is unclear how far this intersexed scenario differs from any other gendered encounter... I suggest the claim that sex is performative must operate constatively in order to be politically effective. One has to say that performativity is the real, scientiŽc truth of sex in order to argue that intersex surgery, which claims to treat sex as a constative, is futile constructivism." (Iain Morland, Is Intersexuality Real?)

I hope these few quotations are enough to demonstrate that queer theory and radical feminist theory are deeply interwoven, and the former is in many ways a continuation of the latter.
I have noticed debate here seems quite one-sided, but I think that I could contribute something to fix what I see as a pretty egregious misrepresentation issue. I know this primer wasn't exactly structured for debate, but I can try to answer any questions below. If you read this all, thanks!

This is Part 2 of the big thread of pro tips and tricks that you all saw 3 weeks ago! Once again, this is not really about themes and visual customizations, it's more about using your device thoroughly and getting the most out of it with stock settings plus some very useful apps. You may know a lot of these tips as some are quite simple, but those ones are meant for new Samsung/Android users :) You may think they're obvious, but many people don't check out a lot of settings. Also, some of these aren't new features, it's more so recommending a way to use the phone. Some of these require you to use specific apps, such as Chrome, YouTube Vanced, Spotify, etc.
Now take some time and go through these tips, hope it helps.
1) On-Screen Lock Button via One Hand Operation + (OHO+)
Download OHO+ from the Galaxy Store if you haven't already got it. The main functionality of OHO+ is to use the back/home/recents button from the edge. But another cool thing you can do is lock your phone using the edge. In OHO+, click on your handle (left handle or right handle), then turn on "Long Swipe", then set the Straight left (or right) option to "Screen off". Now, wherever you are, you can lock the phone by swiping left (or right) from the edge and holding it. This removes the need for the SoftKey Edge panel, which was tip (12) in Part 1.
My OHO+ setup is as follows: Swipe left = back, Swipe Diagonal Up = Recents, Swipe Diagonal Down = Home, Swipe left HOLD = Screen Off / Lock,
2) Enable Dark Mode on Chrome, and Dark Web Contents (like Samsung Internet with Night Mode)
Go to Chrome and type "chrome://flags" to access the flags menu. If your version is 74 or above (you can see it in the top right of this page), then you can do this. Search "dark" and you'll find two options. The UI dark mode will change the Chrome user interface to dark colours, and the web contents dark mode will try to darken all web pages. Switch these to "Enabled" rather than "Default" for whichever one you want. In my experience, the web contents hasn't been perfected yet, but the Dark UI is decent.
3) Disable notifications that annoy you, even persistent sticky ones
If you find that you always get a particular notification that you don't need or don't want to see, instead of swiping it away every time, you can permanently disable it. When you get the notification, then hold on it and it will take you to that app's notifications menu, and it will flash on that particular notification type so watch out for it. There, you can turn it off, and if you click on the text of that notification, you can customize its sound and vibrations. For the persistent sticky notifications, sometimes when you hold on it, it will instead bring up three options, one of which is "Minimize". Clicking on that should turn it off. You may have to press a couple of more things depending on how "sticky" the notification is. You can't disable system built-in notifications like phone calls.
4) Drag down on notifications to get special options
Most people know this, but those new to Android may not. You can drag down on most notifications to read more of it, and on a message notification, usually dragging down on it brings a quick "reply" button. If you click that, you can reply without having to open the conversation on the app. It's quite convenient. For other apps, there are other special options sometimes when you drag down on the notification.
5) Swipe controls for brightness and sound using YouTube Vanced
If you use YouTube Vanced which was tip (29) in Part 1, then you can do this. Click on your profile pic on the top right > Settings > Vanced settings > Swipe controls > Turn ON for Brightness and Volume. I didn't touch the Swipe threshold, but I set the Swipe padding (top) to 120. Now go into a video, and you can swipe the left half of your screen up and down for Brightness, and right half of the screen for volume. The Swipe threshold is to stop accidental triggers when you pull down the notification bar from the edge while watching a video in landscape mode. If you are still getting accidental swipes when trying to pull down the notification tray / quick toggles while in landscape, then make then Swipe threshold higher.
6) Download Spotify (or other streaming music app) songs to the phone's storage + set to Very High quality
I like to download all my songs from Spotify onto my phone's local storage since I have so much free space. The benefit is that you don't use the internet to stream your music (unless it is a song outside your library), so this saves great battery since you're not streaming, and overall, having the songs available on the phone locally is awesome. I use Spotify so I'll give the instructions for that. Go to Spotify > Settings, scroll down until you see Music Quality. Choose which quality you want for Download - I set mine to Very High since I don't care how much space it uses. Then go to Your Library tab > Liked songs > and turn the Downloaded songs toggle ON. Spotify will slowly download your entire set of songs onto the phone. I currently have 30GB of Spotify music saved to my phone and have had no issues at all. All downloaded songs will have a green arrow on it.
NOTE: You can save Spotify songs to an SD card but I have had issues with this in the past, where the storage suddenly switches to the Phone local storage and everything starts downloading again. So use the SD card as a save location with caution. The phone storage never has problems so I stick to that now.
7) Integrate local MP3s onto Spotify (songs that don't exist on Spotify)!
If you have a set of MP3 files on your computer that you wish were available on Spotify, you can now actually add them to your Spotify on your phone! You'll need a PC and a Wi-Fi connection for this.
On your Spotify on PC:
Put all the MP3 files you want into a folder - this folder will be synced to Spotify. Now go to the Settings of your Spotify on the PC. Turn ON "Show Local Files". Under "Show songs from", I recommend turning off everything and clicking "Add a source", then adding that specific folder of MP3s. Now all of your local MP3s will be shown on a section called Local Files on the left. Now, you have to create a playlist, and call it "LOCAL" or whatever you wish. Then click on the Local Files section, hit Ctrl+A to choose all, and drag all of the songs to the playlist you just created, which I called "LOCAL". Now go into that "LOCAL" playlist, and turn ON the Downloaded button (on the right side) and it should go green.
On your Spotify app on the S10:
Make sure you're on the same Wi-Fi as your PC (or the PC can be wired into the same connection too). Close Spotify and re-open it so that the new playlist "LOCAL" shows up, go into it and all the songs should be grey. Turn ON the "Downloaded" button. Now Spotify will download all your local MP3 files as long as you're on the same internet connection as the PC. Once they have all finished downloading, they will all have green arrows on them. Now you can listen to these MP3s wherever you are. So whenever you want to listen to a song that is in your local MP3s, you'll have to go to that "LOCAL" playlist on your phone. I think you can add it to your normal spotify library which is called Liked Songs now, but I haven't tried it as I had issues before. So I have all my custom MP3s in its own playlist now, which works like a charm.
8) Keep statistics for all your music listening via last.fm
Go to last.fm on the internet and make an account, then on that website once logged in, go to Settings > Applications > and connect your Spotify account into "Spotify Scrobbling". Now every song you listen to is recorded, and you can see your statistics for your top songs, artists, albums, etc. All you do is log in to last.fm and see your profile - it's very cool :) Records songs played from phone and PC and wherever else. I bookmarked it to Chrome so I can check it out sometimes.
Alternatively, for really quick Spotify statistics, go here. You'll need to login to Spotify for it to work, and the benefit is that it grabs data since the start of your Spotify account, where as last fm gets data from when you make the account onwards.
9) Clipboard History and Clipboard Edge (hot tip!)
If you didn't know, your phone stores a full clipboard history, it doesn't just save the last thing that was copied. I use the stock Samsung Keyboard so for those with Gboard and other ones, I don't know where the button is. First, you need to enable the Keyboard Toolbar: Go to your phone's Settings > General management > Language and input > On-screen keyboard > Samsung Keyboard > Keyboard Layout and feedback > turn ON Keyboard toolbar. Now open up the keyboard in any app, click the button at the top left of the keyboard to toggle to the icons, click the icon that looks like a "save" icon or a file, this is the clipboard. You may have to click the three dots on the right to find the icon. The clipboard saves all copied text and images.
Hot tip - There is an edge panel for the clipboard. Go to your edge display, click the settings cog on the bottom left, then enable the Clipboard Edge. Now you can access your clipboard on the edge. Really convenient.
10) Smart Select edge panel for quick cropped-screenshots, GIFs, pin-to-screen
Go to your edge panel and click the settings cog on the bottom left, then enable Smart Select edge panel. The top icon on this panel is the quick-crop, sometimes I prefer this over the normal screenshot, as it immediately goes into the crop window so I can choose which part of the screen to capture. Also you can make GIFs from here, try it out on YouTube videos or something, it's quite cool.
One really useful feature here is the bottom button of the 4 in Smart Select, which is Pin to Screen. You can click this to pin a certain area to the screen, so you can go into other apps and keep that part pinned. Really useful in some situations if you need to remember something across apps, but can't copy it.
11) Show Spotify (or other) music player inside Google Maps navigation
Go to Google Maps > Swipe from the left > Click Settings > Navigation settings > Turn ON "Show media playback controls", set Default media app to Spotify (or other music player). Then restart the app, now every time you go into a navigation, Spotify will show up. If you want to remove any persistent notification that comes up, use tip (3).
12) Diagnostic testing for sensors, hardware, screen, etc.
Dial *#0*# and a board of options will come up, and you can test different functions of the phone.
WARNING: Only use this if something to do with sensors or hardware is not working for you, for example, I used it when I ran my S9 through water and needed to test the front and bottom speakers. Also be warned that it takes a while to get out of this menu for some reason - I had to button mash the home and back button to get out of here, but eventually it will definitely get out of there.
13) Turn on Developer options
This is a given for most experienced Android users, but some of you may not know it. Warning - only do things in here that you know well, and don't mess around here. This will be used in a few more of my tips shown below.
Settings > About Phone > Software information > keep tapping "Build number" until it tells you that you've unlocked Developer options.
14) Use high quality bluetooth codecs if your bluetooth headphones are compatible
If your headphones support high quality codecs like LDAC (Sony) or APTX, then this is for you. While your headphones are connected, go to developer options (13), then scroll down to "Bluetooth audio codec" and switch it to the best codec that your headphones support (research it). You can also fiddle with the other bluetooth settings here if you understand them. I use the Sony WH-1000XM3 so I use the LDAC codec and it is amazing. Once you have chosen your codec, then you can go into the normal bluetooth settings menu, click the cog/wheel of the connected bluetooth device, and a toggle showing your chosen codec should appear, confirming that it is indeed being used.
NOTE: For the Galaxy Buds, the general consensus is that Default is the best codec so don't play around with this if you have the buds - they are made for the S10 anyway.
15) Use the Bixby button as a toggle between "Sound" and "Vibrate" modes, like the iPhone switch
You will need to install BxActions and enable Full Remapping, so follow tip (22) in Part 1. Once you've done that, go into BxActions > Bixbi button > for both "Single press" options on Standard action and Lockscreen, set it to "Sound mode iOS (Sound, vibrate)" or the (Sound, vibrate, silent) whichever you prefer. You can also do many other things with BxActions such as Flashlight, Google Assistant, and so on.
NOTE: When you switch to "Sound" mode, it plays a little sound tone. When you switch to "Vibrate" mode, it vibrates. I guess it is nice to know which mode you're in.
16) Save battery by putting certain apps to sleep
Settings > Device Care > Battery > (3 dots) > Settings > Sleeping Apps. Now, add apps which you 1) Don't need notifications from, and 2) Don't use frequently. If you have issues with a particular app after adding it to this, then take it off.
17) Utilize the Navigation Bar toggle in the swipe down quick toggles when needed
This isn't really a tip, but if you use the Nav Bar (3 buttons at the bottom), then you might find that when you watch some videos on Chrome or some other apps, even when you go full screen landscape, the Nav Bar will persist onto the side, often with a white colour. Just swipe down your quick toggles and click the Navigation Bar toggle - make sure Gesture Hints are disabled so that the thin lines don't show up. You can long press the Nav Bar toggle to turn it off. This isn't a great solution, but it's the best I could find if you use the Nav Bar.
18) Quick weather in Lockscreen
Settings > Lock screen > FaceWidgets > turn ON weather. This uses the stock Samsung weather app. Now when you're on the lockscreen, just swipe left/right from the clock and the weather will appear (along with any other FaceWidgets you have). It's a quick way to look at the weather without unlocking the phone.
19) Save battery by turning off Sync options that you don't need + Samsung Cloud
Settings > Accounts and backup > Accounts. Here you'll find all the accounts that are constantly being synced, from all apps. You can click through each of them to see what is enabled and what is disabled, and turn things on and off based on what you don't need. For example in the Google account. If you go back one level to Settings > Accounts and backup, you can go to Samsung Cloud to see what is being backed up to the Samsung servers. Click the 3 dots > Settings > Sync and auto backup settings > turn OFF anything you don't want synced. Also switch to the Auto Back up tab. I have turned everything off as I prefer doing backups only when I feel like it, as a one-off backup.
Another tip which I mentioned before is that if you use Outlook, you can turn off sync in your quick toggles and set a bixby routine to turn sync on only when the phone is charging - see tip (21) in Part 1.
20) Don't get into the habit of "closing all apps" in the recents/multitasking screen
I know a lot of people who have a habit of always clearing all the apps. The S10 has 8GB ram (6GB for some S10Es and 12GB for the 1TB S10+ model). This is a LOT of RAM and also, on Android, the more RAM utilized, the better. Always keep all of your apps open in the multitasking menu - it actually saves battery as when you open an app, it is already in the RAM and so it doesn't have to reload from scratch which saves battery and also provides better performance. I only close one particular app if it is bugging out. Only when the phone is completely frozen or something (very rare), then you can try "closing all apps".
21) Disabling lots of apps and system functions with Package DisableAdHell3/ADB Commands can hurt battery
If you use Package DisableAdHell/ADB Commands to disable a lot of apps including Samsung system things, sometimes it can really hurt your battery performance, which is the opposite of what you were trying to do. What happens is that the phone is repeatedly searching for a funcionality that it can't find, resulting in higher battery use, even though you won't know it. I've had this same experience on the S9 and S7 too. So these days, I stay away from disabling apps in that way.
I only go to Settings > Apps, and disable some apps which are duplicates and keep it at that (e.g. YouTube, Gmail, Google Music, etc). My battery seems to be fine now.
22) Swipe right and left for Back and Forward gestures in Chrome
Go to Chrome, go to "Chrome://flags", then search "Overscroll history navigation". Set it to Enabled, relaunch Chrome. Now you can swipe right for Back and left for forward. Quite useful especially for one handed use.
23) In-built Caller ID from Hiya - see who's calling you before you pick up!
Go to the Phone app > (3 dots) > Settings > Turn ON "Caller ID and spam protection". Click on the text of it to get a description. Essentially, there is an extensive directory on Hiya's database, and it identifies Spam callers for you, and it also sometimes identifies people's or business' names. It works when you receive a call or when you dial a number. It's nice to have some confirmation of who you're calling / who's calling you.
NOTE: Seems like most US-carrier models such as Verizon don't have this option, possibly due to potential conflicts with network policies.
24) Check out and customize the "Doze" buckets for standby status of apps
Android has a built-in feature called Doze that turns apps into standby based on usage patterns. To see what category Android has put your apps into, go to Settings > Developer options (see tip (13) to enable this). Scroll down to "Standby apps" and click on it. You'll find apps are put into four states - FREQUENT, ACTIVE, WORKING_SET > RARE. You can also click on apps and change their state based on your preference. You can't do it to some System apps so they show as EXEMPTED.
25) Turn Scene Optimizer off on the Camera for a more natural colour profile which you may like
By default, Scene Optimizer is ON in the Camera - this is where AI is used to detect what the image is, and a colour and HDR profile is added onto the picture. This usually results in stunning shots but sometimes the saturation is overblown. You can turn if OFF and test out if you like the pictures better. While in the camera view, click the button on the bottom right of the camera view (it is in line with the triple lens buttons) - this is the icon that changes based on what you're looking at. I find myself turning it off 50% of the time for a more natural shot, but Scene Optimizer is still great so don't turn it off permanently.
26) Show all of your notification icons rather than the dots after 3 notifications
Swipe the quick toggles down completely (so swipe down twice) > (3 dots) > Status bar. Turn "all notifications" on, rather than "3 recent notifications". Also, I turned off the battery percentage since I'm quite happy with the battery and don't need to constantly monitor it. I prefer the look in this setup.
27) Try using a pattern rather than pin code - it's way faster
Other than face recognition and fingerprint, sometimes we need to put in our manual method. I find the pattern to be way faster than putting in a PIN code, however do note that it is overall less secure. To change it, go to Settings > Lock screen > Screen lock type. Change the PIN to Pattern and setup a pattern that's unique but also easy to swipe. Try it out and see if you like it.
You can disable the pattern from being shown while you unlock the phone: Settings > Lock screen > Secure lock settings > Turn OFF Make Pattern Visible. Now when you swipe the pattern it remains invisible.
28) Turn off "Lift to wake" to stop the screen from accidentally turning on a lot
If you always find your screen turning on when you move it around, it's because of this. Settings > Advanced Features > Motions and gestures > turn OFF "Lift to wake".
29) Swipe down from anywhere on the home screen to bring up the quick toggles
Settings > Display > Home Screen > turn ON "Quick-open notification panel". Now go to your home screen and swipe down from anywhere to bring up the toggles, really useful for one handed use.
NOTE: Some custom launchers will not support this feature as they have another screen that comes up when you swipe down, e.g. a search bar.
30) Get amazing sound performance - Dolby Atmos, Adapt Sound, UHQ Upscaler
Settings > Sounds and vibration > Advanced sound settings > Sound quality and effects.
Turn on Dolby Atmos - this gives you a richer sound profile and everything becomes louder and more vibrant. I usually have my Dolby Atmos set to "Auto" but "Music" is good too. Don't listen to the nit-picky battery folk who say Dolby Atmos uses more battery - it really doesn't. I've left mine on permanently and it's fine.
If you use headphones/earphones, both wired or wireless, setup Adapt Sound in this menu while you are wearing the headphones. What this does is a "beep test" at a whole range of frequencies and you indicate which frequencies you can hear and which you can't hear. Then it amplifies the frequencies you can't hear so it's like your own customized sound profile for your own ears.
If you use wired headphones/earphones through the headphone jack (e.g. the AKG ones you get in the box), then while they're plugged in, you'll see UHQ Upscaler. Turn it on and set it to bit upscale. You can test out the bit and bandwidth settings, but I think it's better on the bit upscale only.
31) Uninstall or Disable duplicate apps you don't need
Settings > Apps > [Choose App] > Uninstall or Disable (whichever is available).
If you use Outlook, disable/uninstall Samsung Email, Gmail, etc. If you use Spotify, disable Google Play Music. If you use Dropbox, disable One Drive (however don't disable Google Drive as this controls the "Copy" function in share menus sometimes... stupid I know). If you use the default Samsung Gallery, disable Google Photos.
In general, clear out all apps which you already use another app for. If you see an app which you don't understand/recognize, just leave it. Don't start disabling all things that you "think" you don't need. This will result in unwanted battery drain.
32) You can see which apps allow certain permissions, sorted by permissions!
Settings > Apps > (3 dots) > App Permissions. Here, you can see which apps use certain permissions, e.g. Location or Storage. You can then click on the app and take away its permission to do that. To save some battery, see which apps have permission to use Location, and remove any you think you don't need to give location access too.
NOTE: Don't remove any permissions from System/Google apps as this will mess with the phone functionality - e.g. do not touch Google Play Services or Google Play Store or any Samsung system app. Only take away permissions from apps you downloaded from the Play Store..
33) Open into a notification's app straight from the Lock Screen
First, ensure you are on Brief or Detailed view: Settings > Lock Screen > Notifications > View Style = Brief or Detailed. Now when you see a notification on the lock screen, tap it TWICE. This brings up your manual unlock method (PIN or Pattern) but you can still use Face Recognition or Fingerprint to open it.
34) Brightness slider pinned to brief view of quick toggles, only need one swipe down to change brightness
Pull down the quick toggles down to the brightness control. Click the down arrow to the right of the control. Turn ON "show control on top". Now you only have to swipe down once to get brightness, and in combination with (29) this is really helpful.
